Hi all! It has been a hot minute. As most of you know the last year and then some was spent beside my husband as he warred against cancer and lost that war.
As the summer season hits and pop-ups...festivals...etc. are in full swing I have had inquiries about when and if "Butter & Berries" will be back. I DO plan to be back in the kitchen at some point and have been taking some private orders as my energies allow. This has always been part of my culinary dream and one my big guy made me promise to not give up on.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like a batch of homemade croutons, shortbread cookies (I have new flavors I have been imagining) or even meal.

Wow, my last post was seven months ago. And, three weeks after my last event, my world crashed into a wall at a bazillion miles an hour when my husband was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive leukemia.
All things "Butter & Berries" had to be paused, all plans for the Spring and Summer went out the window...yet, again, my dream was put on "pause".
Please know I am NOT gone, I am just busy doing other things...you know, helping my love fight cancer and all. I will be back and I thank EVERY person who has wanted shortbread, that one lovely lady who wanted a bridal shower catered and all who support my small business. I am going to start posting some updates here and some of the fun cooking I am doing for our family and for other families walking the same path we are. I am also going to be posting for other small business owners who have been so incredibly supportive.
If you are reading this, I appreciate you! I value you! Save room for me, I will be back!

I am POOPeD! I got to scoot down for "The Paper Hearts Merc" and offer shortbread cookies and my Grandma's Applesauce Cake that I added a Brown Sugar Frosting and chopped pecans to.
It was also super fun to share my table with my dads' beautiful turned wood creations. It is new love for him and he kinda rocks it, pretty much like everything he does!
If I have any local friends who have a hankering, I ended my day with 1 pack of almond shortbread cookies and 4 packs of lavender shortbread cookies. I can deliver!
Additionally, I am now ready to offer special order baked goods and private chef services. More information to come, but think: "I would love to have a *fill in a yummy dessert here*" or "I would love to have someone come to my home and cook for me or me and some guests"
As always, thank you for all your support, I am so grateful.

Something FUN! Well, at least I think it is fun. For all of you out there who are living a low carb lifestyle. I hope you will come check out some Keto friendly treats I will have this weekend at "The Paper Hearts Merc at Haas"
I have not reinvented the wheel, but rather have studied some different recipes and did some experimentation to come up with my version of the wheel in the form of what I think is a darn tasty thumbprint cookie. Not suitable for cars...for sure suitable to quell your craving for a sweet treat while following a low carb diet.
Even if you are not in the market for any of my wares, I hope you will come out and shop the other local vendors who have some great offerings for Valentines day...or just for fun!
OH! and I am also whipping up "Turkey Tortilla Soup" which comes with all the bells and whistles should you want: Shredded Cheese, Sour Cream, Tortilla Chips, Lime and Cilantro.

Well, again, it has been a "hot minute"! We made it through spike of flue/illness season and the holidays are just about packed up. I am looking forward to not only sharing some shortbread goodness with you all at "The Paper Hearts Merc at Haas" but also a new cake offering of my grandmother's apple cake recipe topped with brown sugar frosting.
Additionally, I will be cooking the events soup offering: "Turkey Tortilla" with all the lovely add-ins. The soup is made up of a turkey that has been seasoned with lovely warm spices, roasted up, and then added along with veggies to a tomato-based soup seasoned with the same spices it was roasted in to swim with. No tortilla soup is complete without a choice of toppings... tortilla chips, shredded cheese, cilantro and lime wedges.

Dear friends! I am sorry to not have been able to bake this week for gifts going out of state. Our family got hit with illness the day after my last event and unfortunately, it is still circulating the house (thankfully at the tail-end).
Next week I am catering a special event and part of that cater will be straight-up vanilla shortbread made with "Kerrygold Irish Butter" and a whisper of raw sugar on top *$10.50/Dozen*. Cookies can be adorned with holiday ribbon or signature black.
If you are local and interested in ordering please let me know prior to December 18th and I can deliver or you can do a porch pick-up.

I want to thank everyone for their support today, it really means the world to me. After a sabbatical, it was nice to jump in and sell out, of 20 dozen shortbread cookies. I appreciate you all and am grateful to be able to fit a wee bit of what I love doing into what life asks of me.

20 dozen + 4 shortbread cookies are baked and ready for you to come and grab!
The cranberry orange cookies are somewhat of a limited edition as I utilized my homemade cranberry sauce as part of the recipe. My cranberry sauce includes honey, clear vanilla extract, marmalade, and cranberries, which when added to my orange shortbread base and additional dried cranberries has resulted in some wonderfully multi-faceted holiday treats.

I think I could hack it in Santa's kitchen, 8 Batches of dough made today! Tomorrow is baking day. I have narrowed down my offerings for this event to three customer favorites. I will be offering Vanilla Bean Shortbread made with vanilla bean paste that is "sustainably and ethically sourced from the Kingdom of Tonga". A favorite flavor profile around the holidays is cranberry and orange, so of course, that dough got whipped up. To finish off my trio of choice, a flavor a lot of people were dubious about but is generally my first to sell out, triple chocolate mocha. You might also find some gingerbread cupcakes topped with my homemade cranberry buttercream frosting if you come and see me (no! really! they are the BOMB diggity). 🤶‍🎄🎅

Sad to say that I have had to back out of tomorrow's pop-up at "The Market", due to sick kiddos and sick ME!?! ACK! NO WORRIES though, I will be making an appearance before the end of their season and will have some special TREATS for your tricksters.
I will not be doing any special orders this week as I put my energies into recouping.

WHEW! What a day! Full of baking, caretaking, organizing, and MORE baking! But! I am ready for tomorrow. Here is a sneak peek of the goodies I will have at "The Merc at Haas"....Sour Cream Coffee Cake Muffins, which have been twin approved. ;) I will also have Sour Cream Chocolate Chip Muffins, generous Chunks of NKKK aka Naked Killer Karrot Kake (no nuts or raisins), Orange Bran Muffins DRUNK with honey and molasses glaze, and bags of Garlic Butter Croutons. Hi all! Time has sneaked away from me and it is just a few days till I will be back out there at "The Merc at Haas" with several other local vendors. There will be another baker in house who makes the most delicious sourdough rolls and bread, I could stuff myself with turkey sandwiches on his sourdough rolls! I also just might have shared my quiche recipe with my mom and another friend who will be baking up some to sell in benefit of the historic "Haas Community Hall".
I myself am going to be taking a break from shortbread and whipping up some other goodies for this event. Buttery Garlic Croutons for your salads and soups. Three types of muffins: Upsidedown Bran Muffins...drunk with honey and molasses (no raisins), super moist Loaded Chocolate Chip Sourcream Muffins, and Coffeecake Streusel Sourcream Muffins. Last but not least CHUNKS of NKKK aka Naked Killer Karrot Kake...super moist carrot cake sans nuts or raisins and adorned with a butter cream cheese frosting (some chunks available with a whisper of toasted almonds on top)
If you would like to reserve any of the above, please let me know before Thursday. If you would like some bran muffins with raisins, I am happy to do that. :)

Hey friends, I am sorry to announce that I will not be participating at "The Market" this weekend for their monthly group Pop-Up. The last full week of summer and prior commitments have me unable to POUR the love into my baking.
I do have some special orders going out next week and that means I will have dough made that can be baked up and available for local pick-up or delivery. I will have: Orange Chocolate, Triple Chocolate Espresso, and Almond.
I will be at "The Merc at Haas" on September 10th, back out at "The Market" in October, and will finish out the year at the merc in November. Perhaps a few other places...stay tuned. Remember you can always place an order with me for local delivery or pick-up. I will be featuring other specialty baked goods: Muffins, cakes, and....perhaps even donuts?! :D
For now, meet my new flavor of shortbread, "The Paul" inspired by someone who kinda likes my shortbread cookies, these are some of his favorite flavors. His are hitting his doorstep tomorrow, you can special order yours anytime. They are a shortbread loved up with almond and amaretto in the dough base and chunked up with dark chocolate and almond slices, hand formed, slow baked, and then brushed with a whisper of amaretto when hot out of the oven.

I started my business when we lived in Washington State, back then it was "Cobwebs to Cookies" as not only did I do catering, I also did cleaning, and about anything in-between....home decorating, party concept, design, and facilitation, personal shopping....kind of a low rent Martha! :)
I put that on the back burner when me and the big guy (aka my husband Patrick) decided to start fostering/foster to adopt; which is another story for another time, but I thought I would share as you will hear/read me talk about it often.
Right now I will say that there was NOTHING better than relying on my cooking/baking skills to *insert fanfare noise* FEED THE TROOPS! Muffins were always a favorite of the kiddos but most especially of our darling Squiggs who came to us six years ago on August 24th and who became ours forever three years ago August 15th. After she had been with us for about a week she came into the kitchen where I was cooking and said "Can I sing you a song about muffins"? I told her to "go for it" and she clearly belted out to a fun little tune "Muuuuufins, could ya make some"? Yup! I laughed and then I whipped up some muffins.
Heading into the season of her anniversaries, I think some muffins need to make an appearance when I am at my next Pop-Up. What are your favorite flavors of muffins? Chocolate-Chip? Berries of some kind? Chocolate? Cinnamon Streusel? I would love to know. :)

These bad boys, aka Raspberry Cinnamon Rolls dressed in a heavy Lemon Glaze, were whipped up today for a dear friend's birthday tomorrow. In all honesty, I have never considered myself a baker, I have always preferred the willy-nilly silliness of COOKING...a whisper of this, a heavy poor of that, OH! let's throw some of THAT in as well! Baking on so many levels has to be PRECISE, and, well, that is not necessarily in fitting with my personality.
All that said, I have honed my baking skills over time and bread baking happened when I had to bake ALL bread products as Base Camp Cook at "Beyond Malibu" a Younglife Camp in the Canadian wilderness. All foods came via boat or air-taxi and that meant pretty much every darn thing was SCRATCH made. A summer of baking bread, rolls, cakes, scones, biscuits...etc. for 40+staff taught me A LOT, and I am grateful for the time of learning in and out of the kitchen that summer.
What types of baked items would you like to see on my menu? What would you suggest, even if you live far away? I would love your input!

Cookies went out to Texas and Boise yesterday, Boise got theirs today! YES! I can ship, and I am happy to do so. At this point, I am only charging for shipping and at the rate that applies directly to you. Hit me up if you want some shortbread goodness sent your way. Current flavor options: Lavender, Candied Pecan, Vanilla Matcha, Orange Chocolate, Orange Cranberry, Vanilla Bean, Almond, Cherry Almond, and Triple Chocolate Espresso. I am going to be playing with two new flavors at the very least...possibly three in the next few weeks: Thai Iced Tea, London Fog, and Amaretto Chocolate Almond aka The Paul.
I require at least 2 weeks' notice for special orders, please. :)

What do you get when you take lovely cubes of french bread and soak them with AA butter and extra virgin olive oil. Liberally season them with minced garlic, coarse ground pepper, and Murray River flake salt, then throw that party into the oven to bake, toss, bake, toss and bake more till they are the perfect golden yellow? You get "Butter & Berries" Garlic-Butter croutons, the perfect fodder on these hot days to dress up a summer salad, especially a Panzanella or my family's favorite, sprinkled into a nice bowl of gazpacho (I love Ina Garten's recipe).
Tomorrow, July 23, I will be at "The Market" from 9 AM - 1 PM with several other vendors and will have bags of buttery croutons as well as freshly baked shortbreads. I have added two new flavors this week: Vanilla Matcha and Candied Pecans made with pecans from Weiser Classic Candy. I will also have Orange Chocolate, Orange Cranberry, Triple Chocolate Espresso, Almond, and Lavender, freckled with lavender from Weiser Lavender.
I hope you will come see me and do some shopping with other local small businesses! You can even grab everything you need at "The Market" to make a bountiful salad for those aforementioned croutons. 😉

Hi! I wanted to introduce my cottage business "formally" to the community those afar and reacquaint some of you with this part of my life. Some of you have already seen me selling my baked goods at "The Merc at Haas" and at pop-ups out at "The Market" in Weiser, Idaho. I have appreciated the overwhelming and kind response to my product, both locally and from afar.
After spending a lot of my adult life traveling and learning, my husband and I moved back to Idaho, well, I moved back and I brought him and my daughters along for the ride. 😊 It is good to be back in what I consider one of my home states (Washington being the other), being near family, reconnecting with old friends, and settling into Weiser which held fond memories from my childhood.
I am a self-trained cook and baker having gained my knowledge at the apron strings of my grandmothers; my mom, and several amazing regional cooks as I have traveled and lived in major food hubs of the United States, including New Mexico, New York, New York, Los Angeles, and the great PNW, a wee bit north of Seattle. I have cooked professionally for the College of Idaho, as well as Base Camp Cook at a Mountaineering Camp in Canada and all manner of places in between. Before moving to Idaho I owned my own small catering and concierge company, "Extra Care and Special Touches" is my motto. I am slowly easing myself into the area and look forward to seeing where life takes "Butter & Berries"
I hope you will consider sharing this FB page as well as stopping by any events I "pop up" at. I also do private orders for events and will be expanding my menu soon, currently, my specialty hand-formed shortbreads are available for order (I do offer limited shipping). All are made with love, AA butter as well as the highest quality add-ins that are locally sourced when possible including lavender from "Weiser Lavender" and this week candied pecans from "Weiser Classic Candy" will make their way into shortbreads. Next week at "The Markets" pop-up, here in Weiser I will be offering six varieties of shortbread: Orange Chocolate, Orange Cranberry, Almond, Vanilla Matcha, Triple Chocolate Espresso, and Candied Pecan, as well as bags of buttery garlic croutons for your summer salads and chunks of my naked carrot cake (no nuts or raisins).

A week from tomorrow! Come see me and other vendors. Shop the beautiful, locally grown produce and other stores at "The Market". You can also visit one of our local restaurants for lunch, including "Weiser Classic Candy" where you can eat lunch and then finish your meal with a sweet treat. Love a good used book shop? Hit up "Literary Paws"....Weiser has several gems that have been here for years and or just popped up in the past few years. :)
