Celebrating 60 Years of Curtin Convention!

From the start of our journey on July 1, 1964 to today, Curtin continues to partner with leaders in technology, medicine, education, sports, entertainment and many other industries. Curtin serves events across the United States and Canada, adding our expertise and dedication to our clients’ tradeshows and conventions. We are reflecting on our past with pride, and looking forward with enthusiasm and excitement to Curtin’s path ahead.

We are truly grateful for your support that has contributed to our success!

The 2020s have ushered in significant changes--and this decade is only four years in! Curtin stayed busy during the pandemic building four vaccine sites, including the largest vaccine center in northern California at Moscone Center. Curtin also installed safety signage at schools and public buildings, and we partnered with the San Francisco Opera at the only performing Opera in the world at the time.

Serving Major League Soccer, The X Games, and the United States Fencing tournament found Curtin adding to our experience with the National Football League and World Cup Rugby!

TechCrunch and Curtin are thrilled to have the event back and booming!

Curtin has journeyed to many US cities with our new and long-time partners--to Miami, Philadelphia, Denver, Atlanta, New Orleans, Orlando, Las Vegas, Dallas, Phoenix, Seattle, Providence and Norfolk to name a few!

This decade will also be a major milestone for Curtin Convention as we look forward to celebrating our 60th anniversary on July 1!

The 2010s marked the era of selfies, fidget spinners, and Instagram--while Curtin was busy expanding and tackling new challenges!

SuperBowl 50 came to town with Curtin partnering with the National Football League on SuperBowl City, a three week long, high profile project that was a huge success!

Curtin collaborated with our long-time partner PBWC and continued to support the iconic Bay to Breakers event in San Francisco. We also engaged with the TechCrunch community at Moscone Center.

The 2000s were a groundbreaking era with the invention of the iPhone, YouTube, Facebook, and the USB flash drive.

This decade also marked the "non-retirement" retirement party of Leo Curtin, who simply couldn't step away from the industry he loved. Shortly after, we lost Leo, and we honor his enduring legacy every day!

As we count down the final weeks to Curtin Convention's 60th anniversary, we cherish our past and eagerly look forward to the future!

Take a nostalgic trip back to the 90s with the Curtin Chronicles!

This iconic decade brought us “Friends”, the Spice Girls, and, of course, everyone's favorite: pagers!

The 90’s found Curtin strengthening ties with the National Candy Wholesalers Association Convention, one of Leo's very first clients—and one of the SWEETEST!

Dianna Curtin, Leo’s daughter-in-law and our current Director of Operations, joined the team and has been contributing to our success ever since.

Take a look at this quintessential photo of Leo’s eldest son, Kevin, standing proudly on the loading dock alongside Leo and Lynne at the San Jose Convention Center!

Flashing back to the 80s with the Curtin Chronicles!

Leg warmers, Top Gun, Walkmans and shoulder pads were in—and so was Curtin as we celebrated a remarkable 25 years in business! A feature in the prestigious San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau newsletter shared our milestone.

And that's not all - Curtin was also busy partnering with the renowned American Concrete Institute, a valued client we still proudly work with today!

The 80’s also found Curtin setting vibrant registration counters all across the US, and serving local partners such as the California School Boards Association and national associations such as DNA/Hybridoma Research Congress and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The 70s were about peace signs, sideburns, the movie Jaws, disco and, punk rock!

The Curtin Chronicles are feeling groovy reflecting on Curtin keeping busy serving clients in California, Nevada, and Hawaii! Check out the memorable marketing letter created by Leo showcasing the many different themes and events Curtin brought to life.

Curtin's achievements in the 70’s culminated in our collaboration with President Gerald Ford and the National Association of Realtors.

Leo's innovation can be seen at the Sheraton Waikiki where he used his Aloha spirit to create a unique registration counter for the American Society of Association of Executives, complete with custom artwork seamlessly complementing the venue. As a pioneer in events and tradeshows, Curtin's creative prowess was also on display in ASEC’s Moon Festival!

The 60s were long hair, bell bottoms, rock n roll, tie dye, and lava lamps!

Curtin Chronicles are reminiscing of the 1960s--the first decade in Curtin's history! Our fearless leader Leo Curtin started Curtin Convention in 1964 with $75 in the bank and 25 6' tables he made himself in his family garage. The decade found Leo building his business, including turning a parking garage into a one-of-a-kind expo hall at the Town and Country hotel in San Diego, partnering with the Seventh Annual Candy Convention in San Francisco and getting letters of thanks like the one here!

Leo Curtin started his San Francisco based family owned and operated General Service Contracting business in 1964. With each client Curtin serves, we maintain Leo’s philosophy of providing timely, cost-effective, personal and customized service.

Curtin remains, and will continue to be, a family business. Curtin’s staff extends past the immediate family to many long-term, loyal employees. The dedicated Curtin team is the foundation for the success of every event.
