Are faux flowers really cost effective & environmentally friendly? Keep reading to see which will save you green 💰

Choosing between fresh and faux flowers depends on personal preference, budget, and the desired style for the wedding. Some couples prefer the authenticity and fragrance of fresh flowers, while others appreciate the durability and versatility of faux flowers.

Additionally, some couples use a combination of both, incorporating fresh flowers for the bridal bouquet and faux flowers for centerpieces or other decorations.

The short answer for both questions is “It depends.” In order to have faux flowers that don’t “look” like faux flowers you will need to spend just as much as you would for fresh flowers.

Fresh flowers can be more economical if you choose flowers in season.

Faux flowers can be eco-friendly because they don’t need to be watered and don’t need to be maintained at a certain temperature. An additional benefit is they can be shipped by sea or land. Either is more eco-friendly than by air cutting down on emissions. But, they need to be used multiple times. If you are only using the flowers once, fresh flowers are the more eco-friendly choice.

According to Silk Stem, “a faux flower bouquet must be rented (only) 2.5 times to break even with the climate impact of a fresh flower bouquet.”

Ideas for reusing fresh flowers:
🌺 Ask the venue if there is a wedding the next day and see if the couple wants to use the arrangements.

🌺Give the centerpieces to your guests.

🌺Arrange to have flowers delivered to a retirement center or hospital. Check with them ahead of time.
