🌈"There is a certain magic that occurs when a group of creative and ambitious people gather in one place. It was a joy to be in the midst of that magic." – Trae Bodge

✨In March 2020, both of us used our own money and vacation time and invested in ourselves. We took a trip to Palm Springs, California to the creative conference, Alt Summit. Little did we know the world was changing, the future with our (now former) company was unknown (hello, the events world went on an unplanned hiatus for so much of 2020!), and our lives were about to change.

✨Change is often looked at from the perspective of being a bad thing. Or hard. But sometimes change helps get you out of your comfort zone, forces you to make a decision you hadn’t planned to make, or helps you chart a new path in life.

✨3 years later and now with 2 years under our belt with Hey Hey Creative, we’re returning to Altitude Summit as entrepreneurs. And we’re SO excited! The Hey Hey Girls (a nickname we’ve come to love!) are taking Palm Springs by storm from March 12 – 15 so watch out to see a LOT of color in our outfits, tips from the fun creative speakers Alt has scheduled, and photos of all the fun décor and activations that surround the conference.

✨And of course (duh!) we booked the absolute cutest house to stay in (the one on this post!) while we’re there. Should we schedule a photo shoot since we have this adorable place?

Alexa, play ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ by Joy Division... 🎶

Valentine’s Day can mean a lot of things to a lot of people and for many, there is a true love/hate relationship. That push and pull, the yin and yang is the inspiration behind our mood board today. ☯️💝

A little bit goth, a little bit bubblegum but very lush and layered and very inspired by the iconic Madonna Inn. 🔮

This board is for that preppy individual with a crush on that “strange and unusual” person. Maybe that person pulls their partners’ strangeness to the surface too, maybe the goth secretly loves a good pop song and the color pink. 🖤💝

Maybe this board is for someone who (I’m going to guess they’re a gemini too) feels both strange and stable on any given day. ♊️

Like Whitman said “I am large, I contain multitudes.” 📝

This Valentine’s Day we challenge you to embrace yourself and your feelings for the holiday whatever they may be. Love yourself and celebrate your multitudes. 💕💕💕🥂

XOXO😘

It’s no secret these two 80’s girls have been fans of Betty White since The Golden Girls first arrived on the scene.

As fellow animal lovers, we knew we had to take part in the Betty White Challenge when it was announced.

Members of our families:

Poe and Seamus are both strays that Rita rescued.

Rita's cat, Simon Thomas, was rescued from the Nashville Humane Association, aka Rita’s daughter, Daisy’s favorite place to visit.

Rita's dog, Sadie, and Gretchen's dog, Arthur, are both rescues from Adopt a Golden Nashville.

Bruce is the latest addition to the bunch after being rescued in August from the Williamson County Animal Center by Gretchen (and technically Rita was there with her)!

Rita has been an animal lover all her life and Gretchen found a love for animals in her late 20’s with her first dog, Hank. We appreciate all that Betty White did for animals during her long career and will continue to support Adopt a Golden Nashville, the Nashville Humane Association, and Williamson County Animal Center beyond just this challenge.

🎉This week, we’re celebrating ONE YEAR over here at Hey Hey Creative! 🎉

So much to celebrate in one full year of business and there’s no way it could have all happened without our clients, our vendors, our friends, our families, our kitties and puppies, and our spouses. Without everyone’s love and support, there would be no HHC! And that would be no fun.

We’d like to thank our very first client, the National Museum of African American Music, for giving us the opportunity to help establish its events department and for Kathy Thomas and Collective615 for believing in us to share her vision through an event for International Women’s Day!

To celebrate this week, we moved all of the supplies and decor we’ve collected in 365 days from Rita's garage to a storage unit! Y’all - we are MOVING ON UP! Baby’s got her first storage unit (if you’re in the event planning world, this is MAGICAL)! ✨

Originally, we’d planned a fun photo op at the colorful (and delicious!) Matryoshka Coffee over off Nolensville Road (go visit and support this small woman-owned business)! The day we went in, Abbey the owner, had all four tables full at her tiny shop (YAY!), the wind was blowing, our balloons had deflated, and we had a 10-minute window before a conference call. So we had to switch gears as one does in the event planning world and we did a mini photoshoot in our storage unit.

THANK YOU for all of the support we’ve felt over the past year through emails, DM’s, cards, letters, and words.

We cannot WAIT to see what year 2️⃣ brings us!

P.S. We’re wearing some of our favorite brands to celebrate! Can you tell we love color?! 🌈

💕Happy GivingTuesday!💕

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement that unleashes the power of radical generosity around the world. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

We’re big believers in helping others and giving back. It’s at the core of who Hey Hey Creative is.

On this GivingTuesday, we’re highlighting 5️⃣ non-profits that we love! Won’t you join us in donating (no matter how big or small!) to one (or all!) of these?

✨ Project C.U.R.E. ::: They help get donated medical supplies to resource-limited communities across the globe!

✨ National Museum of African American Music ::: Black music has a home in Nashville! We love that they have a presence in the Downtown corridor and prove that Nashville is not just country music!

✨ Living For Everything ::: This non-profit supports families and caregivers of children battling cancer (shameless plug - started by Rita’s hair girl)! 💇‍♀️

✨ Community Resource Center ::: We love volunteering at the CRC and being a part of the Nashville Community coming together to support our neighbors in need.

✨ Play Like a Girl ::: Being women and Rita having a daughter, Play Like a Girl is a non-profit that we can easily get behind! 👧

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, something that is near and dear to both of us. 💖

Yesterday I had my first mammogram. While I was nervous, I thought about all the brave people we know who have been diagnosed and fought breast cancer and I found strength in their stories. 💪🏽 Grandmothers, Mothers, Aunts, Sisters in Law, girlfriends and so many more individuals close to us had their lives changed through this exact test. 🎀

Early detection is THE BEST chance we have here, folks so please remember to get your mammogram (we both get them!), do a self check, know your family history, and if something looks or feels unusual - get yourself to the doctor! 🌸👩🏼‍⚕️🧑🏽‍⚕️👨🏾‍⚕️🌸

Feeling nervous too? We are always here to cheer you on, so if you are scared to get your mammogram, or are going in and feeling unsure about it - give us a shout and we will both be happy to answer any questions or send you some funny jokes and memes to get you through it. 👏🏻👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿

Happy y’all!

When most people think of the desert, they imagine a natural color palette, dusty browns, greens, and oranges, but we are all about the unexpected and juxtaposition over here at HHC. What really knocked our socks off about Arizona? The sunrises and sunsets! An absolute blast of every color imaginable at the start and end of each day. Truly, on more than one occasion, we just pulled the car over on the side of the highway to watch that big, beautiful, ball of fire descend past the horizon. The photos never do it justice, do they?

This week’s was inspired by some of those groovy and candy-colored sunsets along with Paige Poppe Art, who we have admired for quite some time. Check out her work and we hope you love it as much as we do!

Now, who’s ready for a prickly pear margarita???

2️⃣ things were on our minds when planning our Arizona trip: the outdoors + art. 🌵🎨

Interested in seeing a glimpse at the outdoors part of our adventures? See 2️⃣ posts back! ⬅️

With every visit to the state, we are inspired and our energies are renewed.

Our itinerary :: Scottsdale ➡️ Grand Canyon ➡️ Flagstaff ➡️ Sedona ➡️ Tucson

One of the stops in Scottsdale was the Saguaro Hotel Scottsdale, the sister property to where we stayed for Altitude Summit in Palm Springs. We knew the hotel would be dripping in fun art installations + quirkiness!

The Airbnb on our overnight visit to Flagstaff was cozy with some fun architecture, located in the heart of downtown, and it had a backyard perfect for lying around and dreaming. Flagstaff, we’ll be back. 💭

🔔 A quick visit to Arcosanti, Paolo Soleri’s utopian project from the 60s and 70s was an unexpected highlight of our road trip. We took a glimpse into a sustainable and experimental community that’s an example of arcology (an integration of architecture and ecology) and all purchased Cosanti Windbells to take back with us.

Our trip's final destination :: Tucson. South of Phoenix and not too far from the Mexico border, the city surprised us with everything it had to offer. On our way in, we stopped at Mission San Xavier del Bac ⛪️, Arizona’s oldest European structure, built between 1883-1797. The structure is currently being partially renovated, but still provided beautiful views of the building and the grounds. Also, we saw a roadrunner. 😍

A quick pop into the funky Hotel McCoy, a mid-century motor lodge turned art 🏨, showed us lots of murals and quirkiness that we love!

🌵While down south, we unexpectedly went through the Saguaro National Park. It felt like we were on another planet thus DJ Rita cued up the Kill Bill soundtracks and the theme song from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Having music perfectly paired with the scenery around us = art.

✈️Travel is a passion for both of us. We had the opportunity to head out West to Arizona with a favorite friend of ours the first week of October and fun was had and memories were made.

When designing an event, we often draw upon an element of something from our travels. This trip, nature was all around us. Trying to fit all that into just ten pictures was hard, but we tried!

We’ve all separately been to Arizona, but never together. Some of our agenda must-haves? Desert Botanical Garden, Bearizona, Grand Canyon National Park, the red rocks of Sedona, as much Mexican food as we could eat, sunshine, and anything weird.

From all the saguaros, the sunsets, the furry creatures, prickly pears, and a canyon carved by water, the nature that surrounded us in Arizona has us dreaming up new event designs. 🌵🌅🐻

Now, who’s ready to have us bring in a bunch of cacti for their event?

Be on the lookout for a post from us later this week with some of our favorite artistic and architectural inspirations from Arizona! 🎨

Fall, but make it moody by trading your pumpkins for pomegranates. For this we drew inspiration from rich pomegranate, fig, pear 🍐 and tones of spiced amber 🥃. And just because we are 90’s babes at heart, you can’t go wrong with classic Vamp nails and burgundy velvet Dr. Martens. 🍁🍂

🌈 The idea of Hey Hey Creative really started forming the first week of March 2020 while we were at Altitude Summit in Palm Springs, CA. 🌴 This colorful and creative conference gave us life and inspiration. Being surrounded by so many amazing women for the week in such a fun location along with staying at The Saguaro Palm Springs is something we’ll never forget.

In between sessions, we were lucky enough to have our portrait done by Victoria Riza! 👩‍🎨 She perfectly captured us and our outfits!

This picture is a reminder to us of where we started. Everything starts with an idea. 💡 Don’t be afraid to chase your dreams. Last year, we took the lemons 🍋 we were handed not long after we got back from this conference (furloughed from our corporate jobs) and turned them into lemonade (started our own business).

Do you have a story? We’d love for you to share it with us below 👇 so we can cheer 📢 you on!

This week’s comes from something that has been in the forefront of my (Rita’s) mind…kids birthday parties! 🎉 When you spend as much time as we do on social media, it is easy to get caught up in the spectacle of all the amazing, creative, and frankly over the top kid’s birthday parties out there. Like everything else in social media, it is also so very easy to find yourself playing the comparison game, trying to keep up with the beautifully curated homes, outfits, lunchboxes, and events you see
online - you moms feel me? Let’s face it, that’s Instagram and this…is REALITY!

So, real talk, when my daughter wanted to have a donut themed party, was I totally onboard? Did I create this super-fun mood board…sure did. Did her party end up looking exactly like this…absolutely not. Sometime maybe I will be in the season of life where I can do an over-the-top birthday party for her, but that time is not now. In the meantime, I will keep reminding myself and you all too (you’re welcome😉) to keep it simple! 🙌🏼

We rented a picnic shelter at a local park (affordable!) with a playground for the kids (built in entertainment!), brought minimal decor, 🎈 loads of hand sanitizer (safety first!), and delicious mini donuts. Our friends walked and rode bikes to the park. It was low-key, and the kids had a fantastic time because never underestimate the power of a sprinkle donut. 👧🏻+🍩=😄
