In honor of my cousin and his wife returning from their honeymoon in Tanzania. I put together a little gallery of their wedding day. Harrison and Nancy, I hope you look back on this day and feel the same excitement and love that everyone felt while celebrating the start of your lives together. This day was so peaceful and full of joy. I’ll never forget both of their beaming faces smiling from ear to ear. I love you both and am so happy for the two of you.

Two sweet friends of mine tied the knot in August. Their gallery feels so authentically them I can’t wait to share pieces from their day. It was a really full circle moment for me. Brennen has been ordering flowers from me for his lovely lady since I first opened Moody Blooms. He was one of my first consistent supporters when I was running it out of my parents garage and growing flowers in their yard. Thank you for letting me be this small part of your love story. It meant so much to me to be there creating arrangements for your wedding. Congrats to the happy couple I will be sharing this beautiful day soon 🤍🤍

Another beautiful bride and groom featured on my website portfolio. Forchyne and Mason had a wonderful March wedding full of vibrant flowers and smiling faces. This day was so vibrant and I talk about the meaning behind this color palette and the specific stems used. I’m so happy to be sharing more and more of this year’s stunning weddings with all of you. I’m so proud of the work done this year so far and love sharing a brief glimpse of the beautiful people I get to meet and shower with flowers!

Let’s talk about what’s in season!

There are so many reasons why I think you should keep an open mind about using nontraditional flowers for your next event. Here’s just my top three reasons why I think using the best of what nature has to offer can make the biggest impact for your party and our planet!

🌎 support your local farmers: did you know most of your event flowers fly first class to your florist? I’m not opposed to this and quite frequently buy flowers from all over the world to make sure I hit my clients requests. But when I have the opportunity, I contact local growers and harvest all that I can from Sunflower Hill Farm. Not only does this mean I’m making less of a negative impact on our environment but I’m also supporting hardworking growers and celebrating their successes through beautiful arrangements! Also, idk about you but travel really takes it out of me and I’ve noticed the commute from the garden straight to your bouquet seems to be a lot less stressful for the flower than going through TSA

🌍 yearly reminder of your special day: This is a big one for me. When I got engaged I knew instantly I wanted to marry my favorite person during my favorite time of the year SPRING. When all the yellow trumpets pop up early spring to ring in the new growing season, I get giddy with excitement for what’s to come and the cheery bright daffodils are the perfect depiction of how I feel come March. I used all the different faces of daffodils I could and have planted similar bulbs at home so I can be reminded annually of the best day of my life.

🌏 uniqueness: using nontraditonal flowers may sound a little scary but trust me, there is so much fun to be had outside of your standard rose. Don’t get me wrong, I love a full blown out rose as much as the next girl and I think roses scream elegance and bridal. But when paired with something so personal and timely to your big day, nontraditional flowers add that extra bit of spice. Utilize some blooms that won’t be available for everyone all year round. It really makes your flowers personalized and stand out from the mainstream.

PSA if your hydrangeas look like this you have the green light to cut and dry them for the winter!

I know it’s so early for me to be dropping the W word but whatever color you cut your hydrangeas is the color they will stay when you dry them. There’s just a couple things to look for.

When to cut them?

🤍 when they are fully open and bloomed completely. Don’t cut them if they have buds still or they will wilt instead of dry out

🤍 they feel a little like parchment paper. They definitely won’t have that hydrated squish when you touch them. I prefer to cut them when they show the first signs of browning just at the rim of them petals

How to dry?

🤍 cut just above a node on the stem and clean all leaves off.

🤍 get a vase that the hydrangeas can set upright in. Add 2ish inches of water so that the stems have about an inch of water to drink as they start the drying process.

🤍 give your hydrangeas one more 45 degree cut before setting them in the vase. Keep them in the vase out of direct sun and away from humidity.

🤍 let them be. I leave hydrangeas in a cool dry spot for 2 or 3 weeks. No need to change the water they are slowly drying and shouldn’t drink much.

I hope your hydrangeas are doing well and you can keep some dried to enjoy throughout the winter!

Had the best time making the cutest pumpkins yesterday at my pumpkins centerpiece class. I loved getting to see everyone’s unique pumpkin. I enjoyed meeting all of you and getting to play with flowers together. I loved getting to see each one of your creative eyes at work creating your pumpkins. You inspire me! Maybe a wreath class next??
