Hello from Washington!

Most of you know me from Florida and followed Henry’s and my trek across the country to our new home, so I figured it was about time for an update:

We are in LOVE with our new home! Everything is new and different and it is strange to be so far from family, but ultimately, we continue to receive confirmation that this was a good decision for us.

I am still working with flowers, but in a new way which has been both challenging and exciting. Henry is forever in school. We have started building beautiful friendships. And we have been exploring our new home every chance we get!

ALL SMILES because Henry and I are moving to Vancouver, WA! You heard it! This girl is moving to the PNW! No, we don’t have jobs yet, no we don’t have a place to live, and no we don’t have any family that lives out there…so this is a huge leap of faith! But we are super excited and looking forward to this crazy adventure. 🏔

As a florist, I do a lot of dreaming and brainstorming before the wedding weekend. Imagining what the flowers will look like and how I’m going to assemble each piece. It’s a lot of theoretical planning and conceptual designing. All the mental preparation is leading up the grand event! When I’ve done so much dreaming already of the flowers, arranging them feels so natural - like something I’ve been waiting for and ready to do for ages.

However, for this styled shoot, I did all of my dreaming and designing at the same time since I was a last minute addition. It was certainly a challenge, but those are the best times to learn and grow. Being a florist is just as much about being able to adapt as it is about being prepared.

I cannot emphasize enough how refreshing it was to simply create something that was effortlessly ME for this branding session with . When we as artists are always creating for everyone except for ourselves, we actually lose touch with our own sense of beauty and creativity. This was a special breath of fresh air for me to simply design for me; to arrange what most naturally flowed out of my creative mind and heart.

If you feel like your creativity has been stopped up lately, and you’re losing your joy in creating new things, do yourself a favor and go create something purely for yourself and your own enjoyment. ❤️

I am OBSESSED with these photos from of M+M’s wedding!

I’m a lover of B+W photos, but I most often opt for color because I want you all to see the colors in the flowers. But these classy white, single variety flower arrangements look just as fabulous in B+W as they do in color!

Flowers are GROWN not manufactured. This is what that means:

• Different kinds of flowers grow better in different climates
• Flowers have growing seasons just like fruits and veggies
• Flower crops can be ruined by the unpredictable Mother Nature
• Nothing is ever guaranteed

So what’s the point???

The point is that not all flowers are grown equal. Take these Anemones in this picture for example. Have you ever seen Anemones so big and luscious before?! Probably not. And this is because you’re getting them shipped from across the ocean when they’re not at peak season and they’re being cut prematurely just to fulfill an order.

Every flower has its moment during the year, and you’re always going to get a more beautiful design when you utilize the flowers that are at their absolute best. This is why it is essential to trust your floral designer with the product. I’m not saying not to have favorite flowers, I’m just saying that if your florist says it’s a bad idea to get Anemones in August, it’s a bad idea.

Our instant gratification/consumer culture has seeped into every area of our lives, and that means the wedding industry too. But flowers are snooty, and they don’t dance to any tune but their own, so it’s always better to go with the flow than try to fight the current when it comes to flowers.

What a Good Friday to be under the grace of God!

“The blood of Goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. The death of Jesus changed everything for me.

I have a reason to live - BECAUSE HE DIED.

My sins have been washed away and I am a citizen of heaven - BECAUSE HE DIED.

I have uninhibited access to God - BECAUSE HE DIED.

I have a personal relationship with God - BECAUSE HE DIED.

I have favor with God - BECAUSE HE DIED.

I have a seat at the LORD’s table - BECAUSE HE DIED.

No length of time would be sufficient to pour out my praise and adoration to that kind of Savior who would give up His own life so that I could be FREE FOREVER.

Jesus, I am yours forever, and you are forever mine. I love you.

UNSOLICITED (but helpful) ADVICE: Don’t limit your wedding design to what you believe is “timeless” and “classic.” Help your wedding professionals get to know you two as a couple, and let them work their magic in creating a day that is simply TRUE TO YOU.

Part of the fun is looking back on old photos and reminiscing about all the little trends you loved at the time and what was in style and so on. Styles and trends are ever changing and so are you, so loosen up with your wedding design and have a little fun! You won’t regret it!

I have mixed feelings about first looks with the groom (I’m a traditionalist at heart), but I can get all onboard with a father of the bride first look! To me, this is such a sweet and intimate moment between the bride and the one who watched her grow up from a little girl into the woman she is today. It’s the last moment together before the father transfers his responsibility for the bride over to another man and gives his blessing over the union. It’s the last moment before he’s not the only superhero in her life.

A beautiful table scape is a staple at every wedding! Since guests will be sitting at their tables for quite a while, why not peak their interest with every detail to keep them engaged throughout the occasion. Here are some details to consider incorporating:

- Florals (of course!)
- Candles
- Specialty Glassware (water glass and champagne or wine glass)
- Name cards
- Dinner and Drink menus
- A gift for your guests to take home
- Folded Napkins (make it a statement!)
- Flatware that stands out
- Non floral design elements such as fruit

Henry (my hubby) and I were long distance all throughout college, which was challenging to say the least. When henry came home from school, he usually brought me a bouquet of flowers. To help make it feel like we were closer, I would try to keep the flowers alive as long as possible because every time I looked at them, I was reminded of him. And when they died, I knew I would see him again soon. On this Valentine’s Day, I’m grateful that we get to be together every day.
