My salon studio offerings have been a secret little club for quite some time now, for the better half of my career as I am extremely selective on who my clients are.

Hard truth... it's not enough to be a master of your craft, you also have to have samurai people skills or youll just come off as inauthentic.

Wedding hmuas have a tendency to lose their authenticity and excitement for today's wedding...

Because they have years of weddings behind them.. or perhaps even 4 weddings just today alone 🙃.

And that makes it easy for today's wedding to feel routine or hard to stay connected to the empathy necessary to truly connect with brides and deliver a special experience without coming off as fake, rough, or cold at times.

As bridal hairstylists we connect with sometimes 10 or more women each day AND the bride

There are skills you can develop within your communication, brand messaging, and service that keep you grounded to who you are authentically while still having a sense of gratitude and empathy for every single wedding and every single service.

Ahh, The soft glam wave process.

I've taught classes on this style, the Majestic Hair waves essentially are what they've become in my mind and in the memories of many of my brides🤍🤍

And I always love because they'll always wear SO differently on hair depending the woman, the dress and the barrel size.

Recently I made a shift in my business. .

From the sea of hairstylists I claimed my difference and unique perspective of what the bride experience ought to be.

Because I recognized that not only do I offer meticulous hair perfection for my brides, but I truly cater to every detail and beyond.

My dream bride isn't just a preferred hairstyle.

I have my signature waves sure, but I've specialized in everything from braided boho to effortless depending on where you found me in my career.

✨️My bride is the woman who does everything for everyone else all the time, and today is her day she gets to enjoy the royal treatment.

✨️Shes a woman who is madly in love with her man and knows everything will be taken care of for her because she had hired the best to cater to every detail so she can focus on the joy and memories of her wedding day.

✨️her heart is pure and kind. She laughs and sees joy all around her and is surrounded by the best of people for her wedding party

✨️I consistently get to serve THAT exact bride. And she finds me either online, Instagram, or friend/vendor referrals.

Story time ⬇️
Starting out I didn't understand a few things about the bridal industry.. it was hard to let go of my salon mentality

If you're a hairdresser you can likely relate.

There were structures with different artists and more established companies that I thought were so unnecessary or over the top or a big waste of time, I was happy to just goto a booking make beautiful hair and go...

No admin. No security. Handshake jobs were fine for me back then.

I essentially thought I was too good for it if I'm being real. (My hindsight assessment of my younger self, I always move in gratitude)

I was too busy to worry about true contracts.
I was too agreeable to take deposits.
I was riding the anxiety train and afraid to lose every inquiry based on a possibly policy or conversation.

I would hide from phone calls.
I skipped the relationship aspect of building connections with wedding Vendor's I saw often.

I was attracting the energy that I was putting out.

Scarcity.
Fear.
Anxiety.
Competition.
Self doubt.
People pleasing.
Draining.

I always gave my best but it wasn't until I faced inward that I saw a real change in what I was calling to my inbox magnetically.

I learned a lot.
I humbled myself.

And here I am. In a place of gratitude for being humble enough early on to receive the lessons and learn quickly.

To take the time and become tuned in enough to know what does and does not work for me and my business.

Knowing your worth isnt some profound statement but its sprinkled aceoss the internet as such.

You don't just wake up one day and have all the answers you seek.

You either earn the level up by scraping your knees and getting back up to climb

Or you continue to seek education and guidance for yourself so you can get there

Better
Faster
Stronger
And able to offer more value within your market.

My bride to be had a textured updo for her inspiration

I have this thing about my where I need it to be perfect before out trial time finishes.

I've had PLENTY of brides who love a good pinterest inspo but it doesn't quite LIVE the same on their head.

Here's a few common reasons why:

✨️youre not the stylist who created the inspo look
There may be different technique involved

✨️your bride has finer or thicker hair than the inspiration
*believe it or not for me its always the bride had MORE hair than the inspo

✨️its a pretty style but not quite what the bride wants

Needless to say it's a progression.
And that's where being experienced in your craft and booking inky your dream brides come into play

Because once you're together at the trial
She trusts you to create what's perfect for her

She trusts your guidance and ability to FIND the look.

And guess what...
30% of the time she may even change her mind entirely on wedding day🥰🤍

I think that's the biggest compliment because she just trusts you enough to say "do your thing"

I recently skipped a step here....

👉🏼because we were just caught in conversation getting to know eachother and vibing...

And it just took me a bit longer to get it perfect for her.

I just kept tweaking until it was exactly what flowed perfectly for her, her dress, her vibe

And guess what.

It ended up being nothing like the original inspiration (apart from being a bridal bun/updo)

That's what trials are for.
I also always document our journey together with notes photos and videos of dog and don'ts

It helps me ensure I deliver my very best for her on wedding day without revisiting all the little details we've ironed out during our trial together

17 years in bridal and events .. so I'll tell you this much..

In the beginning... my ego got in the way.

I thought I could do it all on my own in this big bad world.

I thought I could keep one foot in the salon, and juggle all th moving parts of both salon and bridal..

I know for a fact I got in my own way and it cost me.

I wasted more money climbing the mountain than I would have paying for the ski lift to help carry me to the top or the helping hand that reached out to guide me.

It's true, nobody can BUILD your success for you.

But apart from me, there are quite a few mentors and leaders in the industry offering guidance and education for bridal hair and makeup artists

And the reason why is because once you've built a career and reflect, those of us who made our careers into a dream come true reality
start to educate and help to elevate the Industry realize that offering roadmaps and continuing education as a whole needs to be abundant so that we can reach more and more hairstylists and build a better beauty world TOGETHER.

🚫Complaints about having to do social media
🚫Getting ghosted by potential jobs/weddings
🚫Pros and cons about managing clients/inquiries as a one woman show.

All of that and more is relevant and relatable to the masses and trends of social media viewing.
