We are excited to be joining forces with Oak Creek Commons to host a wonderful evening learning and tasting Sichuan Cuisine!

This public event is a great way to experience our award winning Educational Dinner Parties without having to host!

This week we are excited to showcase Blosser Urban Garden's organic broccolini and chayote.

Chayote is a pear shaped vegetable (culinarily a vegetable at least) which grows on a huge vine. First cultivated in South America it made it way to China, where it is called 佛手瓜 fóshǒuguā "Buddha Hand fruit." In addition to its cool name, It makes a perfect compliment to stir-fries, contributing a refreshing crisp component. We’ve added it to the Gong Bao Shiitake.

We also made our own cabbage pickle (think Sichuan-style kim chi) last week, inspiring the "kim chi" stew.

This is a classic Sichuan delicacy. Shiitake mushrooms fried up with homemade crunchy rice cakes and farmers market veggies finished in a sweet and tangy "lychee sauce." Super fun and interesting mix of flavors and textures.

Sweet and Sour Cauliflower
Crispy Cauliflower nuggets tossed in a Sichuan Hot, Sweet, and Sour sauce.

- Dan Dan Noodles 担担面 - with fresh Etto noodles and sh*take mushrooms
- Zha Jiang Noodle 炸酱面 Shiitake mushrooms simmered in a thick sauce topped over Etto noodles with fresh veggies and bok choy.

Mains:
- Ma Po Tofu 麻婆豆腐 - spicy numbing goodness
- Sticky Rice Cakes and Cabbage 年糕炒白菜
Farmers market cabbage stir-fried with sticky rice cakes. Chewy, savory, addictive.
- Spicy Soup Mushrooms 水煮蘑菇
Shiitake, oyster, and enoki mushrooms in a spicy broth with cabbage and sprouts.

水煮蘑菇 shui zhu mo gu - literally translates to "water boiled mushrooms" - a very misleading name. It is a medley of mushrooms boiled in a spicy, Sichuan peppercorn veggie broth... anything but bland.

- Zha Jiang Noodle 炸酱面 Shiitake mushrooms simmered in a thick sauce topped over Etto noodles with fresh veggies and bok choy.

Mains:
- Ma Po Tofu 麻婆豆腐 - spicy numbing goodness
- Stir-fried String Potatoes 土豆丝-。simple yet classic dish in Sichuan. Lightly stir-frying these string potatoes creates a dish quite different than what is common in the West creating a new taste for this timeless staple.
- Twice Cooked Tofu Rolls -
First stewed dried tofu rolls, then wok fried with City Farm organic peppers (similar technique to twice cooked pork). We had this dish on our last trip to Sichuan. It was so tasty I brought back a few packs of the dried tofu rolls. I am excited to share it here in SLO!

Learn about dumpling culture in China and where to find authentic ingredients. Get hands-on experience pleating your own dumplings with demonstration and guidance by Garrett and Coco. Enjoy the culminating feast of your own dumplings and other tasty Sichuan Kitchen SLO treats. Each participant will make ~ 25 dumplings, so bring a Tupperware to take home leftovers (no judgement if you eat all 25 though 😋)

The price of the class includes all instruction, materials, and 1 complimentary cider (non-alcoholic options available).

We are super excited to be back at the this Thanksgiving week (Wed, Friday and Sat) for their amazing Nature Nights! More than 8 acres of beautiful botanical gardens lit up with festive lights. Warm up your bellies with Sichuan Noodles, Wontons and more while experiencing this once a year event. Kid friendly options available too.

- Ma Po Tofu 麻婆豆腐 - spicy numbing goodness
- Hot and Sour Soup 酸辣汤 - An version of the American-Chinese classic that is more like what you would eat in Sichuan. A little spicy, peppery, and pungent. Loaded with mushrooms, egg, veggies, and tofu. Perfect for rainy weather.
- Spicy Dry-Fried Cauliflower 辣子花菜
Crispy Farmers Market Cauliflower battered and fried. Tossed with fresh and dried chilies & sesame. This is a vegetarian spin off the famous Sichuan dish - La Zi Ji - which uses chicken in stead of fried cauliflower. I am really excited to share this one.

Yu Xiang Eggplant Salad- Sweet, spicy, silky eggplant served cold. A salad version of one of my favorite dishes.

Noodles & Wontons:
Chicken Wonton in Chili oil 红油馄饨 - thee fan favorite
Dan Dan Noodles 担担面 - with fresh Etto noodles and sh*take mushrooms
Zha Jiang Noodle 炸酱面 Shiitake mushrooms simmered in a thick sauce topped over Etto noodles with fresh veggies and bok choy.

Mains:
Ma Po Tofu 麻婆豆腐 - spicy numbing goodness
Gong Bao Sh*take Mushroom 宫保香菇 - A Vegetarian version of the Sichuan Classic… Cubed sh*take mushrooms, carrots, and celtuce wok fried and finished in a tangy, spicy sauce.
Buddha's Delight 罗汉斋 - A healthy blend of braised enoki, shiitake and mu er mushrooms; Farmers market bok choy beans, cabbage and carrot; Sweet potato noodles, dried lily flower, jujubees and goji berry.
Buddhist Monasteries are quite common throughout China, and are known for their delicious vegetarian cuisine. Buddha's Delight is a dynamic dish which can change depending on the region. In essence, it is a stir-fry made of fresh vegetables in a soy-based sauce.

Street, Santa Margarita, Ca.) and Chef Garrett will tell his story of working in the Peace Corps in Nepal and learning Nepal cooking from his host family. Chef Garrett is donating an educational dinner for 10 people to our Silent Auction at the Nov. 16 event-a value of
$800. We hope you take an afternoon break to tune in to some interesting stories about Nepal!
