Donna Forsythe, our Fearless leader of Celebrant Academy and our Celebrant Retreat, hired personal chef, Lee Beale to create a delightful culinary experience for our final evening together. As someone who knows more than a little something about catering and personal chefs through my previous line of work, I was utterly delighted and impressed by not only the beautiful presentations, but the incredibly delectable courses we were served.
First course: freshly foraged chanterelles sauteed in garlic & butter on top of homemade crostinis🤤, served with a side salad of local greens & veggies
2nd course: caramelized onion soup 🤤
Main Course: seared sea bass with carrots, green beans, and potato dauphinois over a green pea sauce 🤤
Dessert: A treacle-ginger cake (similar to a sticky pudding) with caramel sauce
*homemade Tablets followed

What a fabulously connective and educational journey this was! I especially loved learning from & with our Humanist Society Scotland colleagues!

Celebrant Retreats is a post-graduate program available to our Masters Certificate holders. Traveling together adds a new, chosen-chapter to their education. It is just one LIFE-CHANGING benefit of joining our community!

The setting for this morning's elopement was my apartment! My couple is very private and didn't want photos with them in it, so you'll just have to imagine two people, very much in love, staring into each other's eyes as I performed an intimate ceremony for just the two of them with my kitties as their witnesses ❤️

A sunrise elopement this morning at The Willows park in Villanova. Congratulations to my wonderful couple with a loooong love story. They chose this location because this is where they would secretly meet decades ago as teenagers. How romantic is that?! 🥰❤❤️‍🔥💗

This is me, bright-eyed and, well, no tail,... but given that I woke up at 3:30am to drive over an hour to beat the sun, this is a good as it gets 😉

It was such a pleasure to work with Jamie, we cannot recommend her enough. Our search criteria were a woman without religious affiliations, which is somewhat broad. Of course, we wanted someone who was experienced and competent, as we knew little about how a ceremony should go! Jamie ticked all those boxes, but on top of that, she just radiated positive and happy energy. Wedding planning can be stressful, and we were pretty stressed at that point, and whenever we talked with Jamie, we felt our anxiety dissipate. She curated a beautiful, personalized ceremony for us—several of our guests told us this was the best ceremony they have ever witnessed. Your officiant (or celebrant) and ceremony really set the tone for the whole wedding, as that is the beginning of the event for the guests, and the reason why we are all there. One thing we had not thought about beforehand was how the officiant’s words would be such an important part in our wedding videos, so you need someone you are truly happy with. Now, every time we watch our videos and hear Jamie talk, we are transported to those light, happy, festive moments. Again, we cannot recommend her enough. Thank you, Jamie.

As a Celebrant who performs Celebration of Life and memorial services, I think this is important information for everyone:

Spreading this information for those of you that don’t have your affairs in order. Make sure all bank accounts have direct beneficiaries. The beneficiary need only go to the bank with your death certificate and an ID of their own.

- TOD = Transfer On Death deed if you own a home. Completing this document and filing it with your county saves your heirs THOUSANDS. This document allows you to transfer ownership of your home to your designee. All they need to do is take their ID and your death certificate to the county building and the deed is signed over. Doing this will avoid the home having to go through probate.

- Living Will: Allows one to put in writing exactly what you want done in the event you cannot speak for yourself when it comes to healthcare decisions

- Durable Power of Attorney: Allows one to designate a person to make legal decisions if one is no longer competent to do so.

- Power of Attorney for Healthcare: This document allows one to designate someone to make healthcare decisions for their person.

- Last Will and Testament: Designates to whom personal belongings will go too.

- Funeral Planning Declaration: allows one to say exactly one’s wishes as far as disposition of the body and the services.

- If the above documents are done, you can AVOID probate. If all the above is not done, you have to open an estate account at the bank. All money that doesn’t have direct beneficiaries goes into this account. You have to have an attorney to open the estate account. The attorney also has to publicize your passing in the newspaper or post publication at the county courthouse, to allow anyone to make a claim on your property. - It’s a complete PAIN.

- Make a list of all banks and account numbers, all investment institutions with account numbers, lists of credit cards, utility accounts, etc. Leave clear instructions as to how and when these things are paid. Make sure heirs knows where life insurance policies are located.

- Make 100% sure SOMEONE knows your Apple ID, bank ID account logins and passwords!

- Make sure you have titles for all vehicles, campers, etc!

- MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!! - Talk with those closest to you and make all your wishes KNOWN. Talk to those whom you’ve designated, as well as those close to you whom you did not designate. - Do this to explain why your decisions were made and to avoid any lingering questions or hurt feelings.

Hope this helps! Hope this lights a spark to encourage all your friends and family to take care of these things to make it easier for those we all leave behind!

My hope is that the above list at least helps you start an important conversation with your loved ones.

My new year started by performing a Celebration of Life service in the Poconos for the beloved father of 3 and grandfather of 9.
We all had the pleasure of enjoying live music by the incredibly talented Erin McClelland.
I was honored and humble to have been called by the family who had attended a previous service I performed, saying that there wasn't anyone else they wanted for this special occasion. ❤
My heart is full knowing I can bring peace and comfort to those in need.
