Happy NATIONAL GUMBO DAY, friends!

Did you know…

Gumbo originated in southern Louisiana during the 18th century, and typically consists of strongly-flavored stock with meat or shellfish, a thickener, and seasoned vegetables. The seasoned vegetables may include celery, bell peppers, and onions. In Cajun cuisine, the trio is known as the "holy trinity."

Hey all! In honor of World Mental Health Day I wanted to take a minute to share...

I suffer from depression and clinical anxiety. Sometimes the symptoms are so strong that I don’t function normally. I take medications to help my brain function correctly - sometimes they work, other times they don’t. I have good days and bad, like everyone. But on my bad days, sometimes it’s difficult to get out of bed or leave the house.

I will likely be on my medications forever, and that’s ok. I have no shame. I love my family more than anything and I’ll stop at nothing to be the best “me” I can be for them.

I’m telling you this to break down the stereotypes of mental illness. Yes, I suffer from mental illness, but I am so much more. I’m a Wife. I’m a Mother. I’m a Teacher. I’m a Friend. And I’m worthy of a life where my illness is controlled.

Break down the stereotypes of Mental Illness. If you suffer from one, don’t let it define you. And if you love someone who suffers, surround them with your love and support.

Happy National ANGEL FOOD CAKE DAY, y’all!!

Angel food cake used to confuse me as a child - it felt like I was eating a kitchen sponge, but I wasn’t even mad about it! 🧽

This recipe has got me intrigued. My oldest son is WILD about lemon-flavored ANYTHING, and this recipe looks SUPER simple. Guess I’ll be running to the grocery store this morning!! 🍋

Personally, I’m a HUGE moldy cheese lover. My favorite is Stilton cheese - it’s so delicious I named my cat after it!! (RIP Stilton)

❤️HAPPY HERITAGE MONTH!!❤️

On October 15th, 1980, a woman named Doris Christopher started a business. She collected her first sales by going to a friend's house and cooking for her and her friend's friends a frozen pizza on the very first version of our pizza stone.

When I think about how scared and nervous she must have been - and I think about all the lives that have been forever changed by her decision and her bravery, I get goose bumps!

It's absolutely amazing and it goes to show you just don't know the ripple effects your decisions today can have on not only your future but the future of people you haven't even met! 🤩

I'm celebrating with all of Pampered Chef their 43 year anniversary this month and I wanted to show this video to you so you could also hear a little bit of Doris' story.

Happy World Coconut Day, y’all!

Coconut is one of those foods that people seem to either love it or hate it.

Personally, I love it! I usually get all of the leftover Almond Joy and Mounds candies at the bottom of my kids’ Halloween bags.

And I’m not mad about it.

This recipe is supposed to taste just like an Almond Joy!!

Again, I’m definitely not mad about it!

Happy National Toasted Marshmallow Day, y’all!

Late-summer and early Fall is the BEST time for gathering around a bonfire and toasting up some marshmallows.

This dip can be made right over the fire if you use Cast Iron cookware to make it. And it’s delicious ANY TIME OF YEAR - not just this season.

When it comes to roasting marshmallows, how do you do it? Just kissed by the heat? Slightly golden on the outside? Charred beyond recognition?

It’s rainy and cold in Southeast Michigan today, so I’m thinking a hot cup of coffee, a throw blanket, and a good book are in order!

Today also happens to be National LEMON MERINGUE PIE DAY!! A slice of that would be delicious with your coffee or tea!
