A year ago I stepped way out of my comfort zone and flew down to California to attend a training (aka work an actual wedding) with the *GOAT* of all Coordinators, Dee (@the.weddingcoordinators), and it was EVERYTHING. I learned, connected, celebrated, met some amazing people, and most importantly, left feeling confident and ready to take on my first wedding season! I’ve put my own spin on things and created system my own systems, but without a doubt, there’s not a wedding that I do where Dee’s wisdom doesn’t constantly swirl around my head as I’m working. Thank you, Dee ❤️ in this industry and so many others, people can be so quick to gatekeep the things that have made them successful, but Dee puts it all out there for her trainees and it’s absolutely amazing. Forever grateful for the opportunity ✨

I’ve been pretty MIA here lately and we have quite a few new faces so I figured it’s time to (re)introduce myself. Howdy! I’m Aly of AD Events Co., Walla Walla’s Wedding Coordinator ✨ In a previous role, my colleague dubbed me the “Logistics Goddess.” I geek out over the tiny details and how they all come together in the end for a final product. I have been accused of being a “know it all”, but I just need to take in all the info and understand how it all works together 🤓 In 2022 I made the biggest decision of my life to go a non-traditional route to starting a family on my own. I’m what we call a “single mother by choice” - meaning I decided to use some science to have my son without a partner. It was the best and most freeing decision I’ve ever made 💙 According to the Enneagram, I’m a “2” - The Helper. We are empathetic, supportive, and hardworking. Coupled with my wing “3” - The Achiever, you can begin to see why I’ve found the right niche to be in. I thought I wanted to be a translator/interpreter so I majored in Spanish and International Business at a small liberal arts school in Tacoma. After an internship translating reports for a non-profit, I realized I didn’t love it, but it wasn’t in vain! All of this came around when I was able to mix my passion for events with my education in an Events and Marketing role at the Globalization and Localization Association, where I worked for about 5 years. I’m a Pisces cusp baby (Feb. 19th). We’re dreamers, creative, emotionally intelligent, and again, empathetic - seeing a theme here?? 😉 I’ve worked in a variety of roles, but almost always in some sort of service-oriented sector since I was 15 years old. I’ve ALWAYS loved events and celebrations but truly found my passion when I worked in Conference Management at WSU. Being able to help couples realize their dream day makes me So. Dang. Happy. Like, I’ve literally never heard a good argument for NOT having an unplugged ceremony… Reasons why asking your guests to put their devices away is a good idea: 📱 They block the photographer, who you paid 💰💰💰 for and ruin the pro pics 📱 People get wrapped up in “getting the shot” - again, you’ve already paid someone to do this - and are thus less present for your ceremony 📱 Guests pics often aren’t great - whether they’re unflattering of you, reveal details you wish to remain private, whatever. And, you can bet they’re posting them ASAP. Not allowing folks to use their devices gives you a bit more control over what is out there on your day. What can you do instead/to discourage devices at your ceremony? ✅ Have your officiant announce that they’ll have a “media minute” - a moment to capture a pic once you’re at the altar. Other than that moment, all devices should remain out away ✅ Have your officiant do a group selfie/ask your photographer to take a group shot and upload it to a shared location. Out a QR code on signage or programs for attendees to download ✅ Host a post-ceremony photo-op with the couple.
