Truly, madly, deeply, this has been a dream venue for us to host the Black Boujie Brunch. Not only is it a stunning and productive workspace, but it is also a beacon for the community, showcasing what is possible. They have an incredible team, great membership perks, and a collaborative energy that calls us to the next level.

Good morning, friends! Today, I want to remind you all about the power of trusting your instincts. I recently had an experience where I met a man and I didn’t necessarily feel unsafe, but something didn’t sit right. As the night went on, their behavior toward me turned domineering, mocking and argumentative. Their conversation became hyper negative about his mom, women and the gay community.
Again, I wasn’t unsafe. It was just highly unnerving and uncomfortable.
Remember, discomfort is a signal too. A person DOES NOT need to be overtly unsafe in their words and their behavior before you speak up. I shut down the conversation, and it’s something I’m reflecting on this morning. Trust yourself to protect your space. Especially if you are in a position of authority where you can ask this person to leave, or not hire them back. Protect your team (whether they’re on your payroll or not). Trust your instincts, speak up, and let’s keep making magic happen.

THANK YOU so much for investing in the Black Bougie Brunch! It is with a heavy heart that I’m writing to let you know that I am canceling the brunch for the foreseeable future.

Certain questions have arisen regarding the nature of the event and after careful consideration, I believe it is valid to take a step back and evaluate the situation more comprehensively.

My intention is to ensure that the essence of the Black Bougie Brunch, which celebrates the Black community and its achievements, is conveyed authentically and accurately. In light of this, I have decided to postpone the event to work closely with my partners, refine our approach, and address any potential misinterpretations.

I am committed to relaunching the Black Bougie Brunch in a manner that truly honors its mission and maintains the integrity of its purpose. This temporary setback is essential in order to ensure that the heart of the event remains uncompromised.

I deeply appreciate your understanding during this time of reassessment & being someone that values what I am trying to celebrate. I would also like to extend my truly sincere and heartfelt gratitude. While this cancellation is indeed a disappointing turn of events, I am confident that by taking these steps, we will be able to create an even more impactful and meaningful event in the future.

Navigating the dynamic, ever-changing nature of life invites us into a state of “doing”, to the point that slowing down and “doing less” can oftentimes feel unnecessary or uncomfortable. But what happens when we slow our pace, cultivate a relationship with stillness, rest, and allow ourselves to feel rejuvenated?

In this Dynamic Event, we invite you to explore the practices of restorative relaxation and vibrational sound healing with gongs. Why gongs? Well, without songs or notes, the sound and vibration created from gongs offer the opportunity to experience a meditative state, benefitting both the body and mind. Gentle vibrations help restore the nervous system, release blockages, and offer the space to physically, mentally, and/or emotionally heal.

No advanced training or experience is required to join this offering.

WHAT TO BRING
Comforts. Wear comfortable clothing that you can relax in. Please be mindful of others within the shared space and limit the use of colognes/perfumes or essential oils.
Props. Yoga mats, blankets, and bolsters are available at Urban Sanctuary. But you are encouraged to bring your own as well. The recommended props are a yoga mat, a blanket, a pillow, and a small towel or eye pillow/mask.
Sacred items. If you feel called, bring your crystals, stones, or other sacred items that you wish to charge with gong vibrations.
Water. Bring your own water or refreshments to sip before and after the sound healing.
An openness & curiosity to receive the experience you came to have.
