Today, I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Paul Reubens.

As a goofy young kid, watching P*e Wee Herman taught me that it's more than okay to embrace our unique weirdness.

Through laughter and silliness, P*e Wee reminded us all that being true to ourselves is the most authentic way to live.

Thank you, Paul Reubens, for creating a character that has left a lasting impact on countless hearts, inspiring us to be confidently silly and proudly embrace our individuality!

RIP P*e Wee!

Today is the last day to vote in the Bismarck Tribune’s Best of the Best 2023 competition.

Before I ask for your vote, let me share a story.

Since I started my time as the host of karaoke at The Craftcade in January of 2022, I truly believe we have built something special in the community of Bismarck.

Each and every Wednesday we have a group of adults with special needs that come to hang out and sing with us.

Now are these folks amazingly awesome singers?

No.

Is their stage presence unmatched by any other talent stepping behind the microphone?

Also No.

But do they absolutely love and enjoy their time?

Yes.

Are they encouraged, unwaveringly supported, applauded and appreciated after each performance?

Also Yes.

The culture that we’ve created at our karaoke show each and every time we run it, is that no matter who you are, no matter your talent level, performance quality, knowledge of the song lyrics, etc. is that if you step behind that microphone, you’re going to be treated like a rockstar.

Now, do I tell you this story to “toot,” my own horn?

Absolutely not.

I tell you this story, because this is what all aspects of life should look like. For everyone. Always.

You should always be treated like the rockstar that you are, but too often that is not the case, and unfortunately, for our friends who happen to have a special need, even more so.

These adults, want to join their typically developing peers in a social setting, create bonds, and enjoy themselves.

So in our little corner of the world, every Wednesday night, you get to sing what you want. You get a fair, balanced, and honest karaoke rotation, and you get to be treated, and treat others like stars.

If you’re 21+ and open minded to the concept of what was shared above, please join us.

I promise there is no other experience like it.
