Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced that all active-duty forces in the military will be required to get Covid shots by September 15. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that “There is a religious exemption possibility for any mandatory vaccine, and there’s a process that we go through to counsel the individual both from a medical and from a command perspective about using a religious exemption.” Medical exemptions also are possible but more difficult to obtain. More than 74% of the Navy’s service members reportedly have received the vaccine; the Air Force reported a 65% vaccination rate; and the Army claims 50% of its service members have received at least one shot. A**lyst Peggy Hall says the military may not legally force personnel to take the Covid injection.
