Happy Lunar New Year!

Welcome Year of the Wood Snake.

May we shed the skins we've outgrown to ground into our true, interdependent, selves.

Y'all know I have talked a lot over the years about leaving Meta platforms, and I am on 🦋 sky (I gave up on Mastodon).

However, something I read recently got me thinking deeper: is this another divide & conquer tactic?

Good question.

Then, I reconnected with my intention for using social media, which is to stay connected to family, friends, and colleagues.

Phone calls, texts, email, mailing list, Patreon, are all preferred to these platforms. 🔗 to all of them below.

And it's important to be where folk are at, so for the time being, I'm here too.

One of the things I heard about this Full Moon really resonated: it's an excellent one for releasing the big dreams. Share them with the world. Even if it's scary.

This feels like divine timing and a divine nudge, as I've been taking time to rethink my Patreon.

What I've realized is that I - and looking at the numbers the majority of folk - aren't interested in helping support day to day artist existence, even though there is great excitement around my bus creation.

It took me a long while to come to terms with that HUGE disappointment. Given all my one on one conversations, I really expected a large amount of $1/mo Patrons to help bring my tiny mobile home office stage to life and boy was I wrong. Devastatingly wrong.

In the subsequent years, I started my Patreon in 2019, I realized that folk were much more interested in supporting my tarot work and me as an overall artist/creator rather than Conscience's build. And I realized that where I feel really good using Patreon funds is in access & dreaming. Meaning, I applied for paid artist's residency I wouldn't have applied to otherwise because there was an application fee. These funds pay for ASL translation, including at Dec. 29th The Tarot Show. Doing things that I deeply desire doing, but couldn't afford otherwise.

I started dreaming bigger, and allowing my childhood dreams of Broadway to weave with my dreams of performing The Play About My Father more...

What if we start manifesting the first Patreon funded, crowdfunded, Broadway show...?

I think y'all know, I'm a Broadway baby. That's why I'm co-creating The Theatre Oracle! I've been going since before I was born - ask my mom about going to the opera pregnant with me - there were many years we'd seen everything on Broadway, despite how hard it was getting in and out of theatres with my dad in a wheelchair. Pre and early years of ADA baby! No accessible bathrooms, lots of stairs. It was ROUGH. And worth it because of how much we love theatre. First time we were able to see a show with ease was Lion King because they completely rehabbed the theatre and it had to be ADA compliant.

I digress.

One day, in the not too too distant future, I want to perform at the Booth Theatre because I am a distant relation to Edwin Booth, America's first premiere Shakespearean actor - and yes, consequently also kin to Lincoln's murderer. This layered family legacy is a perfect Broadway home for The Play About My Father, and I think he'd be so tickled that his story, our story, was playing in a theatre honoring more of my Ancestors.

So, this Full Moon in Gemini as Mercury goes direct, I'm going direct with my dreams too. For a show that has me standing face to face with myself, how Gemini!

Will help you bring Broadway dreams, and other b.e.s.t. access to life, by becoming a Patron?

Cause I can't count on grants and fellowships, I get turned down a depressing amount, including a big new one very recently, despite my best efforts.

I can count on my Patrons and for that I am eternally grateful.

We'll be nice and cozy in Fuse Theatre Ensemble's Back Door Theatre and this month we'll be profit sharing with Portland Backpack, a local organization stewarded by Shani Bagwell, considerately helping kids deal with food insecurity. They'll have given out a lot of backpacks with the holidays, so let's help fill their stores!

It marks the last day I had meaningful IATSE work and consequently the first day I was able to fully focus on tarot and Group Tarot. Having two deep loves means a split focus or like the Chariot, working to pull the two horses together to make it across the finish line. A year ago, that story changed as I no longer had any reason to not fully focus my energy into tarot - already a 20+ part of my life, work, and practice. This month is easiest for our friends in the Eastern Hemisphere and for those of you who have some insomnia in the west. Or who want to set your alarm to reflect with the actual energy of the New Moon. If you have access needs, please let me know!

Recently, I have also helped midwife the dying to the great unknown...
