A Story of Family. Faith. Freedom

01/10/2019

Dear Archery Fans,

Starting in November we will be having archery in Woodland Park Every Wednesday unless there is a conflict. See schedule below.

This Wednesday, Oct 2 there is archery in Woodland. No archery in Cripple Creek the next two Saturdays, Oct 5 & 12 (this is a schedule change). Oct 5 John will be attending the annual banquet & awards ceremony for the Rocky Mountain Archery Assn, and on Oct 12 & 13 he will be attending a Two Day Bare Bow Shooting and Coaching Seminar which is taught by two national/international bare bow champions! He plans to apply what he learns not only to his own shooting, but also to help improve the shooting skills of his students.

LOOKING A HEAD: The next tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16 from 5:00 to 8:00 in Woodland Park (see details below). Our tournaments are small and a lot of fun, and they will help "get your feet wet" so you can go on and compete in larger tournaments. Remember, the deadline to register is one week before the tournament.

Following is the complete archery schedule for October and November for both Cripple Creek and Woodland Park. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please call. Hope to see you all real soon.

Best Regards,
Mr. John

Schedule & Details for Indoor Archery Tournaments: We do "Big Deuce" Archery Tournaments at Cripple Creek Parks & Recreation in Cripple Creek (details below), and regular 600 Round Tournaments (details below) at Woodland Life Center (Nazarene Church) in Woodland Park.
Entry Fee Only $10
Archery equipment will be provided if you don't have your own.

Friendly Competition - All Ages - All Skill Levels. Competitors will be divided up by age groups, s*x, skill level, and type of equipment. This helps give everyone an equal chance. Also, shooting distances will vary by age (from 5 to 20 yards). The most important part of shooting in a tournament is to have fun, meet new archery people, and maybe even win an award.

TO REGISTER YOU MUST CALL John at 719-930-7081 or RESPOND to this email! REGISTRATION DEADLINE is 5:00 ONE WEEK BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT!

*Cripple Creek "Big Deuce" style tournaments:
They are actually two tournaments in one. We shoot three rounds of 5 arrows - 6 ends each, for a total of 90 arrows on 40cm Ten Ring FITA Targets. The first two rounds will constitute a 60 arrow "600 round" tournament in itself, with classes for age groups, s*x, skill level, and type of equipment. There will be ribbons for all classes, and medallions for categories. Then, the final round is everyone competing against everyone, without classes, because the scores of the first two rounds will be used to determine everyone's handicap, and then the handicap will be used to adjust the final round score. This will level the playing field, and it is very possible for even a beginner to beat an expert shooter. Here is the agenda for the Big Deuce Tournaments:
*9:00 – 10:00 Archery Tournament Registration/Warmups
*10:00 – 10:45 Archery Tournament – 1st Round (5 arrows - 6 ends)

Fred Bear’s 10 Commandments of Hunting:
OutdoorHub Staff Writer: Keenan Crow

*Don’t step on anything you can step over.

*Don’t look for deer, look for movement and remember it’s what they’re looking for, too.

*Always approach from downwind. In the cool of the day, move uphill; in the heat of the day, move downhill.

*The best camouflage pattern is called, “Sit down and be quiet!” Your grandpa hunted deer in a red plaid coat, think about that for a second.

*Take only the gear to the field that allows you to hunt longer, harder, smarter.

*A rainstorm isn’t a reason to quit the hunt, it’s a reason to stay.

*Camouflage your appearance, your sound and your scent.

*Be sure of your shot. Nothing is more expensive than regret.

*Hunt where the deer actually are, not where you’d imagine them to be.

*Next year’s hunt begins the minute this season’s hunt ends.
