Today we kick off a new video series: 5 Rules of Online Wedding Planning.

Here's the bad news: If you're throwing a traditional wedding during the pandemic, your guests won't follow the coronavirus safety guidelines. Sorry. They just won't.

And if they do - they won't have fun.

Which means if you want to celebrate with ALL your loved ones on your wedding day, and you care about public health, there's just one choice for you. (But it can be a good one.)

Since our state reopened, we've been back to working weddings in the flesh. We haven't seen a safe one yet.

That's the bad news. The good news is, you've got a better way.

Today we're launching a new video series: the 5 Rules of Online Wedding Planning.

Pandemic weddings can be safe, or fun - not both. Unless you go online, that is. Here's Rule 1 of the 5 Rules of Online Wedding Planning.

There are two ways to do a .

You can make it an afterthought, or you can make it the whole thought. You can let online guests watch you celebrate, or you can celebrate with them.

You can give them a window into your wedding. Or you can open up the door and party with them.

We can help you open the door. (If you want the window, you're on your own.)

Don't give them a window into your celebration.Open up the door and let them in.

On your microwedding day, you’ll need to capture a few key moments and send them to us so we can design your online celebration. Here's what to do.

09/07/2020

If you're a Backthird Entertainment couple, you can pivot to a much safer Huge Little Wedding for free.

You keep all your wedding plans: same date, same location and same vendors. But you end your party after dancing, which is safer. And you cut your guest list to below 50, which is safer. Then we build a digital reception for ALL of your guests to interact with you for an entire week after your in-person celebration.

I'll be posting more on HOW this works tomorrow. This video explains the heart behind it.

Meet Adam and Kas, married April 4. They're more proof .

Kas and Adam had planned to host one of the year's most unique and beautiful wedding receptions at Chez Wedding & Event Venue. The couple had put so much meticulous thought into every last detail of the day and had planned to celebrate with over 140 of their closest friends and family. It wasn't even two weeks prior to the big day when the COVID pandemic took the city of Chicago by storm.

The couple considered total cancellation of their big day all together. They had put so much time and energy into something and it just didn't seem healthy to push it out another year.

However, they decided to keep their special date and instead have a very small, intimate ceremony in the back yard of their parents home. A few of their vendors were even able to practice social distancing while helping bring it all to life!

The day was so special and thoughtful. Although it wasn't what they had originally imagined, they were able to share one of the most profound moments of their lives with the people who meant the most to them.

Welcome to the New Unusual.

If you're considering a Huge Little Wedding, know that you'll still get to build incredible memories on your wedding day - and share those moments interactively with ALL the friends and family you care about.

At the same time, this is a new way to wed. Some things will be different. Here are 5 ways a Huge Little Wedding isn't like traditional weddings you've seen in the past.

Your online celebration starts a few days after your microwedding - just as soon as you get us the video. It's open for a week. Guests attend any time.

When they do, the first thing they'll see is a personal greeting from you.

Imagine standing outside your wedding hall and personally welcoming every guest, saying "we're glad you're here" and "here's what we'll be doing today." It's great. It makes them feel connected right away to the most crucial reason they came to your wedding: You.

And you can't do it at a physical event. But in your online celebration it works like a charm. Watch the demo at https://hubs.ly/H0s0T0_0 for a taste.

Microweddings aren't just the future - they're the present. You don't even have to cut your guest list if most people join in online.

But you can't do just anything for your wedding and expect online guests to feel like part of the party. Here's how to structure your microwedding so that everybody feels connected.

Microweddings are the future. But you don't have to cut your guest list if most guests join in online. Here's how to structure your microwedding for that.

23/06/2020

Here's the goal of a Huge Little Wedding in one word: Participation.

We don't want your guests to WATCH you celebrate your wedding. We want them to celebrate it WITH you.

At a physical event, that's what they'd do. They'd dance. They'd toast and cheer. They'd greet you and greet one another. They'd talk with you face to face and tell you how important you are, and you'd get to say the same to them.

It's hard for all of that to happen in a Zoom call, the same format you've been using to get interrupted and talked over by your coworkers for 3 months. Weddings deserve something different.

So we found one. Watch the demo at https://hubs.ly/H0rz4Ln0.

22/06/2020

We need love.
We need commitment.
We need vows.
We need forever.
We need hope.

We need you to get married.
Even if we can't be with you in the flesh, we need to be with you. We need to celebrate. We need rejoicing.

Love is how we live, and what we're living for.

So long live love.

Meet Christal and Kenny, married June 5. They're more proof .

Christal is a nurse who cares for COVID patients, so they're sorta serious about respecting health guildelines. After two cancelled dates, the couple finally tied the knot on the front steps of Stan Mansion after being awarded a free Luxe Style Shoots event. 10 Chicago vendors came together to turn the event around in just a week.

It was just the couple, 8 guests - and a CBS Chicago camera crew. Now that's how you do "unforgettable."

16/06/2020

Creating the Huge Little Wedding meant deconstructing everything we'd learned in 15 years of live events with Backthird Entertainment - and re-imagining it in the online space.

Here's one thing we learned along the way: Your wedding is a story.

A great celebration unfolds in a certain order. And it has a "plot": Slow parts, exciting parts. Parts about meeting all the characters. Parts about feeling all the feelings.

Your online celebration will have 6 chapters. And we'll lay it out for your guests at the beginning of the party, so they know what do expect and never feel lost.

This is the same thing a good MC would do at a physical wedding celebration: Tell guests what to expect. The more they know what to expect, the more they can relax. The more they relax, then more they participate and have fun.

To see the story in action, watch the demo at https://hubs.ly/H0rwnC60.

Meet Sara and Danny - they're more proof .

"The plan was a May 2nd brewery wedding with 100+ of our closest family and friends," Sara says. "Unfortunately, the coronavirus didn't care about our plan!

"Instead of worrying about our loved ones getting sick, we decided to cancel our original wedding. But that didn't stop us. On May 2, our original wedding date, I donned my wedding dress and Danny and I got married in our own backyard in front of our immediate family.

"We look forward to celebrating with the rest of our loved ones (with some help from Backthird Entertainment) at our one-year anniversary party on May 2, 2021."

Meet the Bryants - they're more proof .

Alicia says, "We got married after 8 years together, then 2 weeks later found out my father’s cancer was back and terminal. He died about one month after telling us kids.

"My father passed away and the world went to pieces. We got married February 5th 2020, my dad died March 11th and then pandemic hit. My husband is an essential worker and has been working through all of this and so have all of my siblings. We got married at the court house and planned for a party with family and friends but all of that is now on hold.

"If it wasn’t for the love of my life and our two beautiful girls, I may have given up ! It still isn’t really sunk in that we are married because life has been so busy, but I’m so blessed to have him in my life and we have been through so much together. I thought 2020 was going to be our year and despite everything life goes on and we have each other. At the end of the day, even if it’s a bad day...I am Mrs. Bryant and we will make it through anything!"

An online wedding takes a whole lot more than clicking that red button on your phone. We're learning there are certain elements you always need to have to make your online guests feel like they're still connected to your wedding, still attending.

Here's a big one. Cut a cake or share a meal or drink if possible, then document it for your guests. They'll feel so much more like they're at your wedding with you.

'Cause they will be.
