Ok we know we already posted today but remember when we did this donkey/sustainable wine shoot for ? Well the argentinian winery just a few days ago shared those photos on their page which connected us to a Peruvian illustrator .cat.ilustra who wanted to make an illustration out of a photo— to which we said run it. And it just arrived. And we are so stoked. And think we kind of look like the guys from El Dorado? Regardless, an immense thank you to . You’ve got skills. Give this artist a project or a follow❣️

Thanks to and others there’s a lot of statistics out there regarding our (over)consumption over the holidays. Valentines Day is the 2nd leading cause of greeting card galore each year (Christmas being the 1st). Other than that, it’s mainly candy, roses, jewelry, and clothes. Palate is having a secondhand fashion show today to highlight the importance of supporting slow & local fashion. And the proceeds all go back to their/our Northside community. How RoMANTIC! 😍

The model here is Joe Suleyman, director of New Hanover County Landfill. He gives incredible tours of the facility; you should seriously sign up for one (call 910-798-4403). It’s super relieving to know your county’s landfill accepts so much and is doing so many creative things to repurpose “waste”. And that what they don’t accept probably does.

OUR 1ST SUSTAINABLE DESIGNER COLLAB featuring upcycled art by .nc , modeled here by the Scrap Squad (some of our favorite sustainability stars in town). These items will be sold throughout this month through story sales and a few auction posts (for the more popular items). The last will be first as the bleached xl shirt in the final picture will be going up as a STORY SALE TONIGHT @ 6:39 .

Thanks ahead of time for being patient as we navigate the new world of apparel. We’re super excited to continue trying to empower eco-designers both as a platform and creative partner.

1 & 10. Our sensei of who literally hugs trees. He actually wrote an article about it. Now we do too.
2. who we met at a slow fashion event put on by over a year ago when she was doing and since then she opened this thing called idk if youve heard of it, it’s just like the coolest & most sustainable restaurant in town.
3. of who is a badass skater, former grad & new hanover county teacher of the year, and now runs a used books & vinyl operation in where he sometimes reuses a box 4+ times for shipping records.
4. Joe Suleyman, the director of our county landfill. Obviously a lot of depth & greatness to this man sitting on the summit of a mountain made of trash in a tie dye turtleneck beneath a storm of seagulls.
5. our sometimes mom, sometimes crazy best friend, always soul sister who started .inc and manages to keep pushing it forward to greater and greater things. So grateful to be a part of them. Also, she made that art behind her 🤯
6. representing our beloved at our beloved refillable section. Olive oil. Soy sauce. Peanut Butter. Spicy Cashews. Every. Damn. Time.

Us too, Julie. I think most everyone loves warm woolen mittens around this time of year...except for a few who can’t stand their 5 fingers being grouped together...understandable. But for everyone else, we’ve got something for you! Made by our friend & idol Caroline who is talented beyond all of her measuring devices. A swimsuit designer typically, she can make really anything and make it masterfully. She made these with the same kind of materials that Bernie’s friend Jen Ellis made his. And Caroline was even able to salvage one sweater to be a crop-top with matching mittens. That is available as a set for $77 ! Which we think is a steal cuz dope look and never seen before. Lined mittens are $44 and unlined are $33.

Oh also to announce that our first full sustainable designer collab with .nc drops TOMORROW!!! And we’ll be doing one more story sale then 👀 Thanks for reading and feel the bern 🔥

We’re cosponsoring a trash sweep that’s also something like a trashsweepstakes— since we’ll be handing out $1000 throughout the day! Sometimes at random. Sometimes for concrete awards like heaviest bags and funniest litter collected. Our goal is to incentivize, stewardship, fun, & community (covid makes it a bit strange but it’s community nonetheless).

See pic #2 for general map of our target area. The check-in point will be Dram Tree Park around 12. We’ll try to keep things as social-distanced as possible (sending out small groups to clean designated blocks). We will pick up trash until 3. A food truck will be present at the end. Details on all of the above to follow. You’ll be sure to see them if you sign up 😘

“The Day Before Cargo Crawl”

‘Twas the day before Cargo Crawl, and all through the district
Christmas shoppers were stirring with so many cute shops to visit.
Containers like stockings, stuffed with plants, clothing, and art;
Honestly not much elbow room to stay 6 feet apart.

The children were nestled, all stuffing their faces
with tots from the mess hall: the tastiest of places.
Mom’s at Rose + Honey, while Pa’s over at Queen Street
Spending lots of $, but the time spent was the real treat.

Up in the Alcove, there arose such a clatter;
The children stopped feasting to see what was the matter…
Through the carved out windows of the high shipping crate,
All they could see was green hats, and so returned to their plates.

But there up above was something they wouldn’t believe…
It was a small team of elves decorating a tree.
For up there tomorrow, while everyone’s drinking their beers,
Will be Mr & Mrs Clause-- in their younger, rebellious years.

That small team of elves will be manning the line,
And taking photos at the top of one inner child at a time.
It’ll be like the good ‘ol days, when Santa came to the mall;
But weirder...and less weird...covid-compliant and all.

You probably guessed it with all this context: we’re running a sanitary ~ santatary* ~ pop-up santa photo booth atop the north pole spiral staircase TOMORROW from 12-4.

Our friends & will be playing the roles of a young, punk mr & mrs clause. And photos will be taken and edited by the elfin’ best photog in town: .worldslayer .

Instead of sitting in santa’s lap, we’ll have a # of scenes set up allowing you to engage with santa in creative, covid-compliant ways like playing cards or roasting marshmallows.

Prices at the mall for different packages will range from $25-$75, whereas ours will be from $15-$45 ...though there will be a $100 option 👀

This set will also be largely wastefree largely thanks to who let us borrow from their incredible stockpile of xmas decorations.

The “2020 Climate Wrapped” report by was one of our favorite things to hit the internet this year so thought it deserved a . Glad did the same (where we saw it). We also wanted to throw in some of the more hopeful happenings of 2020 for the environment, since it wasn’t all bad:

Our lockdowns slowed some of our pollutive habits, the UN declared this next decade to be one of ecosystemic restoration, a group of island communities have started banning reef-toxic sunscreens ( & were first in January), and likewise bans of plastic bags & single-use plastic are beginning to occur (almost) all around the world! Plus, there’s right many beautiful bills from this year floating around in congress with lots of cosponsors like february’s “environmental justice for all act” (74 sponsors) and “break free from plastic pollution act” (91), and May’s “clean water for all act” (86).

As always, there’s much to be wary of & much to be grateful for 😅😊.

It’s santa season! Santa Julia that is... .

We traveled 150 miles in one day off the coast of Beaufort Friday looking for whales. Sadly, the only one we found was of a neonate critically endangered right whale lifeless on a beach.

It was a testament to me that our documentary, “If the Ocean Could Talk” is more timely and important than ever. Thank you Sam Shores and Boot Scrap for enduring the journeys.

Funny thing is that some of it actually looks much more obscene when blurred 🤷🏻🤷🏼‍♂️ So sorry to everyone who put so much time into this production to have it taken down in its prime on the tube 😪

So took down our PARODY (wet a$$ plants) for violating their “s*x and nudity policy” after 15k views 😔. We’d out it on if they weren’t . But rly if you saw the video you know there was neither s*x nor nudity, and if you’ve seen youtube you know it gets far worse (probably including the original WAP video). It’s not a huge deal of course; we’ll make a safer edit and another video and it will be alright but it’s just upsetting and we think notable that fun & useful (albeit edgy) content like that would get taken down in 2020...especially after being one of the most positively received videos we’ve witnessed! Looking through the comments on the instagrams of & .worldslayer as well as on reddit and the ones originally on the youtube video, we can attest to seeing almost ZERO negative comments across all platforms. The closest thing to a negative comment was when someone called Garion a punk David Spade...which might have been positive; we don’t know. The video even received 5 wholesome awards on the gardening subreddit alone 😂 (not to mention 4 treehugger awards). Anyways, this is why it’s not on Youtube rn and we’re working on a new version (that won’t get us a “strike” 😒). Also wanted to put something out for ppl to so that might see it and realize that they are the preacher from freaking 🕺🏻

Obviously so much to be said about this one. First off, this whole video basically only costed us a green tea from and thanks to them as well as a local farmer who lent us trowels & gloves, the whole set was waste-free (other than the water of course).

We owe the idea to of who’s a super cool visionary and brought us this concept after which we partnered with of who HANDMADE all of these bikinis— and most of them in a span of like TWO DAYS (unbelievable human)— and then we got the fearless to perform the song which we recorded at LCR Recordings with . Crazy Saturday.

And speaking of crazy saturdays, tomorrow will be one with the South Castles ✖️pop-up from 1-5. Come support these local ladies doing things sustainable & spectacular. We’ll be there 😊

P. Daddy (ft. The Saplings) took the stage for us yesterday and absolutely slayed it. It was honestly really cool & uncanny to see these guys bond so quickly on a set they’d just met at...but you know what they say: “dance together for a day, know each other for a lifetime”. The other crazy thing is that this is less than half of the cast we had for a ✖️ video...so grateful to everyone who shared their time— and their moves— with us. You’ll see it some time before the SCxPO popup this weekend... 👀

Just got off the phone with , and have some super exciting projects around the corner 👀 If you’re looking for a local organization to donate your time or money towards, KNHB is a great option. They have a hand in many conservation efforts, but do an especially notable job with our cigarette litter here; keeping the everlasting filters & toxic chemicals out of our waterways. Here’s some photos from a shoot we did with these amazing local eco-models 🤩 and 10,000+ butts we collected from KNHB, sterilized, recollected & then shipped to ♻️

This 4th of July please only bring one butt to the beach!

We recently worked with and on a campaign to raise awareness about beach litter, specifically ci******es, and the great work KNHB is doing to recycle the butts and turn them into things like tables and chairs.

Huge shoutout to for these amazing photos and the top tier vibes on set, for the makeup, and & for the assistance!

(For anyone who is curious about the production of this shoot: we buried a tarp and built a little sand wall around it so the butts wouldn’t be lost. At the end we all picked up the butts and then sifted through the sand in the tarp to make sure we didn’t leave any behind. Then we cleaned up the beach around where we shot. We will be putting out a vlog soon about our whole process and how we did this all waste free!)
