9 Tips For Getting Ready on Your Wedding Day-
The first step in feeling your very best on your wedding day starts with morning prep. If you’re overwhelmed right about now, don’t worry. Below are some of my 9 Tips for Getting Ready on Your Wedding Day. These tips will leave you feeling calm, cool, and collected on one of (if not) the best days of your life! So let’s get started…
DON’T JAM PACK EVERYTHING THE MORNING OF
Do you know that overwhelming, irritating feeling when we’re being rushed? Yeah, trust me when I tell you a lot of people feel that the morning of their wedding day. There are so many moving parts; it can feel like everything moves a million miles per minute. Not the best way to start your wedding day if you ask me! So make sure that you don’t jam-pack everything the morning of your wedding day. You may think that scheduling a fresh haircut the morning of is a good idea but listen to me when I say don’t. Or how about a fresh mani/Pedi before the big day? Yeah, no.
A lot of things can go wrong, which can cause everything else to be delayed, which we don’t want! Make sure you’re scheduling big appointments like a nail, hair, fittings, etc., so the morning of your wedding day is smooth sailing.
ADD IN BUFFER TIME
So you remember how I said things can easily get delayed and run late? Well, that’s why it’s important to add some buffer time for situations like this! Whenever I work with my couples, we create a killer wedding day timeline, so just in case things go longer than expected (which most of the time they do), you have some buffer time set in place, so everything is still able to run its course.
DECIDE WHAT YOU’RE WEARING WHILE GETTING READY
While you may not think this is a big deal, deciding what you’re wearing while getting ready is super important. You aren’t going to be wearing your wedding attire while getting your hair & makeup done, so my advice is to choose pieces that are easy to take on and off (your HMUA will thank me). Choosing items like robes and button-up shirts are the easiest to maneuver and change out of the morning of your wedding day. Don’t you ever wonder why so many wedding parties have to match PJs and robes? It’s not just for the fashion, but because it’s simple and easy to change!
DON’T FORGET TO EAT (AND DRINK) SOMETHING
This goes for you AND your wedding party, but please, please, PLEASE eat something the morning of your wedding. You’re running around like crazy getting everything prepped and ready to go, and before you know it, it’s time to put on your dress and start the day. However, I know we all know what being “hangry” feels like, and nobody wants to feel that on one of the most special days of their life. ESPECIALLY if you’re going to be drinking throughout the day. You want to make sure you are hydrating your body and fueling up for a day filled with activities.
PACK AN EMERGENCY KIT
It’s inevitable that accidents happen, and the best thing that we can do is be prepared for when/if they do! So packing an emergency kit is key to easing your mind and preparing for anything and everything! Now you’re probably thinking, “what do I put in this emergency kit”? While everyone’s emergency kit may look a bit different, here are a few key essentials every person may need the morning of their wedding.
• Sewing Kit
• Bobby Pins
• Bandaids
• Stain Remover
• Hair Clips
• Chapstick
• Eyelash Glue
• Super Glue
• Advil
• Feminine Hygiene Products
• Q-Tips
• Lint Roller
• Mints
• Extra Earring Backs
• Fashion Tape
• Deodorant
• Small Mirror
• Small Brush or Comb
MAKE SURE YOUR GETTING READY SPACE IS CLEAN
As mentioned several times throughout this post, things can get crazy the morning of your wedding very quickly. This can lead to a lot of things being thrown around, misplaced, and overall leaving your getting ready space messier than when you got there. Making sure your getting ready space is clean will not only help ease your mind, but if you were to need something, you will be able to actually find it. Especially if you have hired a wedding photographer, who will be arriving to take photos that morning, having a clean space is essential. Your getting-ready space will be in a good amount of your photos, so cleaning up any extra cords, chairs, or clothes off the floor will ensure your photos look fab and not drab.
MAKE SURE YOUR WEDDING DETAILS ARE ACCESSIBLE
This is mainly for couples who have hired a wedding photographer for their wedding day. Which *cough cough*, if you need one, you know where to find me, haha! Make sure your wedding details are accessible before your photographer arrives. I always recommend that my couples gather their wedding day details a few days in advance in a small shoe box, so everything is in one place on the day of the wedding. Some ideas for wedding details are:
• Partner 1 attire
• Partner 2 attire
• Jewelry
• All Three Rings
• Veil
• Perfume or Cologne
• Shoes
• Cufflinks & Ties
• Invitations
• Floral Trimmings (Ask your Florist for any Extras)
• Hair Pieces
GET A GOOD NIGHT’S REST
You want to ensure you’re locked and loaded the morning of your wedding. So how do you do that? Well, it all starts the night before with a good night’s rest. As cliché, as it sounds, ensuring you’re well-rested is a major factor in how the rest of your wedding day will play out.
TRY TO LIVE IN THE MOMENT
Above all else, try to live in the moment! It can get so easy to get distracted by all the small details and make sure everything goes perfectly. At the end of the day, what matters most is that you’re marrying your partner and celebrating with those you care the most about. Your wedding day is a day of love & joy! So as much as you want to overthink every little detail and everything that could go wrong, don’t forget to take a breath and try and savor every minute of this wonderful day. Your wedding day goes by in a blink of an eye and before you know it, it’s all over. Cherish every moment, and you won’t regret it.
Hopefully, by reading these 9 tips for getting ready on your wedding day, you’re feeling a bit more at ease. Your wedding day should be filled with fun & celebration and don’t you forget it!
