Who’s Your Dad?
Once upon a time, in the live music capital of the world, there were two passionate broads...
Lormin moved to Austin from Baltimore in 2015 and hit the hot, filthy ground running, straight into the sweaty pits of the underground punk rock & metal circles from which her band, the Dead Coats, was born. And it was just outside one of those beautifully decrepit pits that she met Savannah: a Louisiana native raised in the Austin music scene with a penchant for groove, volume, and authenticity. Naturally, these loud, headstrong ladies found their way to friendship as they navigated the male-dominated waters of their social and creative environments
While Lormin went on to record two albums and complete a west coast tour with the Dead Coats, Savannah birthed two babies: her human baby, Waylon, and her band, Dream Reamer. As the shows went on and the city boomed, their love and respect for the diverse roots & eclectic future of both the people and the music of this city deepened— and their disappointment with how that was reflected in the local and underground scenes hardened; how could a culture shaped by such legendary artists, that boasted such a promising creative future, be represented on any given night in such a homogeneous, restricted, and… boring way?
The fiery frontwomen decided to take action. Enough commiserating & fantasizing over six-packs on back porches until 3 AM: it was time to really put together events for bands of many genres, and most importantly, musicians and crowds of many identities, ages and backgrounds. No more “token” this or that— a true melting pot of talent and humanity. No more of that “watching the whole show through your phone” or “spending half the time outside smoking a cigarette” bullsh*t— real, bumping, gnarly parties where the music is intoxicating and the crowd is alive. DAD Presents is defiant and dazzling; dumb and delightful; dirty and daring; for the underground, by the underground.
