Details matter

What makes going out to dinner a Dining Experience verses simply Getting a Bite to Eat? Both can be equally fun and memorable but for different reasons.

I have been thinking about Hospitality a lot recently and what makes an experience worth investing in. Some of is the attention to details such as presentation. The simple details added to the presentation of meat and potatoes makes the meal more of an experience not just eating.

I like to think of this as the Art of Hospitality.

The Movie Groundhog Day from 1993 was the story of the same day repeating over and over until the main Character, Phil Conners learn a lesson.

I only watched this movie once, but today I am thinking of other MOVIES I enjoy watching over and over and over.

Forest Gump; Planes, Trains and Automobiles; Greatest Showman and La La Land to name a few.

What makes a great moment for you?

Having a love language of "Quality Time" I am very intentional with making every moment special, whether by myself of with others. I will intentionally add elements to the most mundane routines to turn them into something special.

A special glass that I only drink a certain beverage in to remind me of my grandfather; cuddling with a blanket as I read; singing a fun song as I do dishes.

When I create events for my clients, I take this same intentionality to create a special experience for the host and their guests.

Every moment is special; make it an event.

On a recent trip, my husband asked the bartender to simply surprise him with a drink; her choice what to make. She asked a couple of questions to better understand his tastes.

She was so excited to get to create!! This was her creation (never been made before) based on flavors she knew would go together and her own inspiration.

He said it was one of the best cocktails he'd ever had. This is the ART of Hospitality.

Also, notice the cinnamon stick on top is lit. Creative!!

Here is a tip for a crowded check in location at an event. I clipped the name tag to the raffle card with a pen. This allows attendees to grab all they need and enter the event without a long line at check in. ALSO don’t forget a container for the trash from the sticker name tag.

Do you see the fresh flowers?

There is an ART and a SCIENCE to Hospitality. The art lies in the little details that people may or may not recognize. This table demonstrates the impact with the little details.

The desserts are decorated and presented exquisitely, but they are displayed on the table with great attention to detail and presentation; using different levels on the table and of course decorating with fresh flowers.

Events are more than just food and venue.

I have been thinking a lot lately about hospitality. What it is... What it isn't... Why it's important.... How is hospitality different than customer service?

Some of the best definitions of hospitality include going beyond what is expected. Customer Service is transactional and problem solving. Whereas Hospitality is anticipating the needs of guests and creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

You can have Customer Service without Hospitality but not Hospitality without Customer Service.

Quite often business owners don't think to put aspects of Hospitality in their in-person events. That is where I come in to elevate my clients events.
