Tomato…Tomatoe
No matter how you say it, I love this time of summer.. Large, plump, juicy and delicious Jersey tomatoes.
New Jersey tomatoes are red, ripe and juicy with a tangy, sweet-tart flavor that captures the taste of summer. Experts call the Jersey tomato "A groundbreaking tomato that has redefined what a tomato should be." The New Jersey tomato is celebrated like the great Italian San Marzano tomato for their outstanding flavor. I just call it delicious.
Growing up on the east coast, I always anticipated and enjoyed when this amazing fruit became available in late summer.. Mid-July to the 1st week in August. Btw, yes tomatoes are fruits not vegetables. Being Italian and all, tomato sauce runs through my veins. My father has had a garden in the Bronx NY for as far as I can remember. So I found some Jersey’s at AJ’s Fine Foods in Glendale. (See picture). Visually they looked nice, found them a little under ripened. This is typical for all tomatoes on the east coast since they travel in refrigerated trucks. That is why New Jersey tomatoes, grown in New Jersey were so tasty. We enjoyed true Farm to Table service. Tip #1: Do not refrigerate your tomatoes! Cold is the enemy. Keep them on the counter and only purchase what you are going to eat within 1 week.
So… I am writing this B
