We reflect on their legacies and selfless service, while taking pause for their families who bear the immediate impact and sorrow for their loss.

I served with and experienced the loss of a shipmate, and the hardest thing I ever had to do in the military was to present a folded flag to a widow on behalf of a grateful Nation.
