This Sunday 9/22, on the Autumn Equinox, join us in the medicinal gardens at in New Paltz for a very special Equinox Ecstatic Dance with SPASIBA (), with opening Breath Connection with Mallory Combemale, Warm Up with Jesse Carrey, and closing Sound Meditation with Elana Kaufman & Melissa officinalis!🎶🎧

Warm up description

The warmup will begin by waking up each of the physical senses. Then we will experience movement qualities through different centers in our body to inspire opportunities to diversify the way we dance. The warmup will conclude by exploring kinesthetic response as a group inspired by the Ensemble Method, developed through Rebis.

About Jesse Carrey

Jesse is a performer, experience designer, and floral designer based in the Hudson Valley. Together with Katya, he is the co-founder of Rebis, an immersive experience company. He was the director Those Before Us, an audio immersive dance experience that debuted on Governors Island in 2019. Through Rebis, he was also honored to be a story consultant and editor for It’s Nice to Hear You, an award-winning podcast and NYTimes critic’s pick. Most recently, Jesse has been the lead instructor for beginner to advanced adult acting classes at Shadowland Stages in Ellenville.

Our featured artist for this dance is Quiet Hours Co-Founder, Melissa officinalis!

Melissa officinalis has been facilitating Ecstatic Dance since 2019 when she first started Quiet Hours Silent Disco with friends in upstate NY. She has spent many years dancing at Ecstatic Dances around the world, and collaborating with dance communities hosting Ecstatic Dance Silent Discos around the country, including Ecstatic Dance OC in California, Ecstatic Dance Charleston in South Carolina, Exploring Within and at the Mauna Kea Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii, and her first festival debut at Dance Beyond Campout in the Berkshires.

Melissa’s home base is in Ecstatic Dance Hudson Valley, facilitating regular Ecstatic Dance Silent Discos at Tweefontein Herb Farm in New Paltz, featuring different artists each month. Weaving beats from around the world, her sets are a heart opening journey, closing with live sound healing instruments.

Her name Melissa officinalis comes from the botanical name for Lemon Balm, connecting to her passional for herbalism and the magic in dancing outside in nature.

We are ecstatic to welcome this month’s featured artist, .maya 🎶

The depths of Keena Maya’s sound are incantations, drawing us down into our roots, grounding us into our bodies, and invoking the incandescent deity within us to rise. She is a sound artist, DJ, hypnotist, and holistic designer transmitting BASS BLISS.

Guided by the rhythms of nature, Keena Maya creates harmonic collective experiences and environments to awaken the magic of being and expand our capacity to love. Her work lies at the intersection of somatic embodiment, holistic design, herbal craft, mutual care, ceremony, neuroplasticity, and dance.
Currently stewarding life between the Hudson Valley of New York and the mountains of Bulgaria, she is half of the ritual bass project , a co-founder of Clear Studios, a pillar of .bae, and an international Ecstatic Dance DJ.

She also mentors sensitive souls 1:1 to find their deeper calling through sound supported hypnosis, so they can feel in a harmonious collaborative relationship with self and anchor into their path of service to the whole.
