How does an engagement shoot work with Big Day Memories?

The first thing that we do together is choose a location.
Then, we set a time for the shoot. On the day of the shoot itself, we will meet at our pre-determined location and get started! Instead of just walking from landmark to landmark and working through a set of pre-chosen poses, we'll take a walk and stop to shoot along the way.

We are looking for beautiful light, incredible backgrounds, and interesting compositional scenarios that we can use for your portraits.

While we will set you in "poses", they're more gentle guides to interaction. We want to see how you are together, and how you're comfortable. If you're less inclined towards public displays of affection, rest assured that we won't have you do anything that doesn't feel natural to you. If you're exuberant and outgoing, we won't set you into poses that are reserved and hands-off.

We understand this concern, so we decided to throw a FREE posing master class on July 23 at our beautiful .dtla studio in the heart of Downtown LA. And YOU ARE INVITED!

A first look allows the couple to privately see one another before the wedding ceremony.
Traditionally, couples see each other for the first time on a wedding day at the wedding ceremony. However, a trend growing in popularity is the first look.

WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER A FIRST LOOK:

💭GET THE NERVES OUT OF THE WAY

We’ve heard so many times from couples, “I think I would just feel a lot calmer if I could see them.” Well, you definitely can! First looks are a great way to get those nerves out, but still have a special moment where you see each other for the first time.
First looks allow you to have a moment to slow down, take a deep breath, and see your person.

💭ALLOWS YOU TO SHARE A MOMENT TOGETHER PRIVATELY

When we photograph first looks, we always get the initial reaction and stick around for a couple of minutes, but then we leave you alone for a bit to soak it all in. This is one of the only times all day you’ll truly get alone time.

💭GET YOUR PHOTOS DONE BEFORE THE CEREMONY

After you’ve seen each other, you can breathe and head into pictures feeling excited for the day. When you have a first look, photos of you two and your wedding party can typically all be done before the ceremony, meaning most or all of your photos are done before the wedding even beings. This means more time with your guests, which is a huge plus! It also allows you to just enjoy your day.

But those items that didn’t seem like such a big deal during the planning process can turn into major regrets after the Big Day is done. Here are 7 you don’t need to miss for your wedding day
1. Day-Of Coordinator
You shouldn't be stressing about anything on your Big Day. Hire a day-of coordinator that can help with all of the little details at the ceremony and reception so you can just enjoy!
2. Second Photographer
It's always a good idea to consider more than one photographer, Capturing the beautiful candid moments is just as important as capturing the key moments. With two photographers, you get to reminisce on memories that would have otherwise been missed or lost.
3. Videographer
Wedding Videography is still something couples skip or put as a last priority on their list of services to book, but it is an entirely different medium than photo and offers an authentic ability to relive the experience that no other service offers.
4. Place Cards
Not having cards ends up being something of a nightmare for the guests as they do the awkward 'which seat should I take' dance.
5. Veil
So many brides think they don't want a veil and then regret it later. If you're not sure and don't want to spend the money on something you might not use--consider renting one or buying it secondhand.
6. Ceremony Programs

Closer to the wedding, make sure that everything you need will be prepared for the morning of the bride, including the room itself for preparation:
🌸 Full length mirror
🌸 Highly placed hook to hang the dress and the hem does not wrinkle!
