Keep running no matter what!
I spent 22 years in manufacturing before I decided to go into real estate. After that much time at one place, the system of the company was so engraved in me that I was uncomfortable with my new found freedom as an entrepreneur. Anxiety and stress affected me like never before. I was so accustomed to doing my daily job and getting my weekly pay check, not building a pipeline and following up with leads! It took years to get comfortable in my new role, and the truth is that I am constantly running hard everyday, praying to God that I never have to return to a manufacturing role. Entrepreneurs can be a little paranoid, always wondering if every I has been dotted and T has been crossed, nevertheless I wouldn't trade it for the world. Although real estate has provided many challenges, I rejoice knowing that I can finally help people realize their dream of owning a home or investing in property. Honestly I could care less about the size of the commission, I am just grateful that another client trusted me with one of the biggest purchases in their life. I am glad that I can teach my clients about investing and show them how my wife and I have purchased 6 homes in four years. And I am glad that we create many jobs with every transaction that we earn. Attorneys, carpenters, accountants, title companies, contractors, insurance reps and agents all make a great living whenever we are successful doing what we do, now that is a great feeling. One thing I would tell anyone before becoming an entrepreneur is that you need to know how to add value to someones life before you ask for business. If you can add value each and everyday, life as a business owner will be so much easier. Forget trying to make a sale and simply add value. Refuse to allow fear and uncertainty to stop you, perfection is the enemy of progress. There is never a perfect moment to go for it, you will have to leap or be stuck in your same spot forever. I clearly remember several years ago my co-worker telling me that the housing market was about to crash. I did not pay his fear any mind and moved full speed ahead. Everyday I am glad that I used his fear to propel me forward in our city. The City of Arlington has been the best place to do business for me. I love seeing all of the new development and of course we have the world's most valuable franchise with the Dallas Cowboys. Our diversity is the best in the metroplex and I believe that the city leaders are doing all they can to push community forward. We still have a long way to go with supporting our teachers, but I am hopeful that we will get there.
