It's Throwback Thursday, so let's jump back one year ago this weekend to Renee and Jon's awesome wedding reception at The Armory in South Bend! Renee's family is one of our legacy clients with us having done her sister's wedding 4 years ago and her uncle's wedding in the Fall of 2019, so you can imagine how pumped we were to party with all of them again 🙌 Renee chose our Platinum Package with DJ Sticky Boots and full-room uplighting to complete the look, and Sarah Sage captured all the magic as it unfolded. Obviously 2020 was not a year that any of us could have imagined, but we survived it as a team, intensely focused on giving our clients the best and safest experience we could possibly provide under challenging circumstances, while still making it fun! Nearly anyone who’s ever grown up in Elkhart County has at one time or another attended an event at Nelson’s banquet hall in the quaint small town of Wakarusa. It’s been the venue of choice for celebrations in the Wanee area for decades, and besides hosting some of our close friends’ weddings over the years, it is even the location of our own DJ Sticky Boots very first paying gig (which happened to be the Northwood HS prom when he was just 13 years old!). Well that venerable building recently underwent a complete transformation, and it definitely is NOT your daddy’s “Port-o-Pit” event hall anymore.

The property has been rebranded as The Blue Teal, and we’re happy to report that the teenage Sticky Boots would certainly not recognize it! The long list of new and improved amenities were a perfect fit for bride-to-be Brooke when it came to planning her and Zach’s dream Fall reception.

After becoming engaged in March just at the start of the COVID pandemic, Brooke felt confident in booking us in June of this year and knowing that we along with the other pros in their vendor team would be able to execute a safe and yet still fun event in October.

We love opportunities to see our friends at the Oakwood Resort in Syracuse, and it’s probably no coincidence that we tend to be performing there on holiday weekends. Why? Because people love to spend summer holiday weekends at the LAKE – Lake Wawasee to be exact! And there’s nowhere more scenic or versatile than the Oakwood for a holiday wedding on the Lake!

Oakwood Resort offers several different event spaces for brides and grooms, including outdoor spaces, but in our opinion, the best venue on the property is the Hilltop Banquet Center. It offers both indoor and outdoor spaces, air conditioning, and a panoramic view of Lake Wawasee. Julia and her staff always do a great job with weddings and make the vendor team feel welcome. Newly-married couple Leah and Adam felt the same way and choose the Hilltop at Oakwood to host their Labor Day Weekend Sunday reception along with DJ Sticky Boots.
