Why is vulnerability in conjunction with appreciation? As discussed in the past, showing gratitude toward others and connecting on an emotional level can be uncomfortable for some, many actually. Learning to be okay in a vulnerable state allows that connection between human beings to strengthen. This is why it is vital to the health and wealth of our romantic relationships.

Take some time to evaluate the roles you are currently filling in your relationships. Ask yourself: How is this role serving me? How is this role harming me? How fulfilling do I find this role? Do I want more from myself in this role? Have I left myself space to grow + expand this role? When is the right time for me to grow out of this role? Do I want to take on other roles? Have I effectively communicated my happiness or displeasure with this role to my partner? We all have struggled with feelings of doubt + discouragement. Sometimes those feelings creep up on us + sometimes they hit us like a brick wall. But what do we do with those feelings? Particularly when it comes to relationships? One of the most common questions I have been asked as a Relationship Coach is “should I stay or should I go?” That is not a question for me to answer. When I’m asked this question, I instead ask the individual to reflect on what they’re feeling. What thoughts + feelings are coming up for you? Why those thoughts + feelings? How important is the relationship to you? How much time, energy, + effort do you put into your relationship consistently? How vulnerable are you with your partner? How effectively do you communicate your wants, needs, + desires with your partner? Doubts + discouragement are normal feelings + thoughts to have in relationships. Especially when you’re considering taking a next step in the relationship. But your doubts + discouragement doesn’t mean the relationship is a failure. Rather, this presents you with an opportunity to LEARN. Learn about yourself + the relationship. What do you want out of a relationship? Why? Are your values + needs represented in the relationship? Are they being respected + honored in the relationship? What can you do to help strengthen the relationship? How can you further your knowledge about relationships? What is your attachment style? What is your partner’s? What is your love language? What is your partner’s? Rather than immediately jumping from “I have doubts” to “this is over”, what if, instead, you thought “what can I learn from this?” Which values of mine are not being honored at this moment that is causing me to doubt?
