THROWING A HOUSE PARTY? We're here to help you avoid the most common mistakes. 1. NOT BUYING EXTRA TOILET PAPER This is such a rookie mistake! We don't like to think about things like toilet paper, but if you are having 20 additional people in your house (who are also drinking) you don't want to run out of toilet paper! 2. NOT GETTING ICE You may think you do not need ice for a house party because you have a fridge or because you think your guests won't mind. But, the secret to a great cocktail is in the ice! Buy 20lbs bags of ice and fill your sink, a big bucket or even your tub. This will chill your beer in 15-20 minutes and your wine in 30. 3. USING GLASSWARE We can't tell you how many times we see this mistake. Using your own glassware can be a costly affair (and even a dangerous one!). Glasses will break and your guests may end up stepping on them. Save yourself the clean-up and the headache - get plastic cups! 4. USING TOO LARGE CUPS Since you are getting plastic cups you might be tempted to get large solo cups. We recommend getting 9oz cups instead. This will keep your guests from getting too drunk and you from having to clean up vomit! 5. NOT PLACING TRASH CANS AROUND THE HOUSE Yes, we know you are not a professional venue, but you can save yourself so much clean-up just by placing trash cans around the house (or yard). When people have to look for a trash can and all they can find is a small one under the sink (or none at all) they won't throw their trash. They'll place it on your counter or tables. You probably already have some extra trash cans in your house (office bin, bathroom etc.) or at least buckets or something similar you can use! HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT CHOOSING AN UNTRADITIONAL WEDDING VENUE? Here are our top recommendations for wedding venues that will stand out: 1. ART GALLERY If you are a modern couple looking for a non-traditional place to hold a ceremony and reception, a modern art gallery might be just what you need. The sleek design and simple surroundings will give your wedding the minimalistic look you desire. 2. MUSEUM Similarly, you may want to consider a museum for your wedding! This can work if you are having a romantic or traditional wedding as well, depending on the kind of museum you choose. Remember that beautiful scene in "The Vow" where they get married in a museum? What a dream! Just make sure you have the proper licenses and allowances from the museum! 3. BREWERY This may not be at the top of your list, but it does provide for a great (and cool!) place to get married. If you and your partner love beer, you'll want to consider a brewery. We can almost guarantee that none of your friends will be having the same venue. 4. RESTAURANT A rising number of weddings take place at restaurants. They offer all you need for your wedding right there! Food, drinks, tables, chairs. The only downside can be space, but on the other hand you can get some insane views and otherwise unique aspects if you choose a restaurant. 5. AQUARIUM Want a beautiful and unique space to get married? Do you envision being surrounded by water and sealife when getting married? Aquariums can be beautiful and deeply romantic. And you'll have some very interesting guests! Not all aquariums or marine centers allow weddings, check your area for ones that do!

HOW TO CHOOSE: Your Venue This may be the biggest decision you'll make in planning your wedding (other than agreeing to be married!). So, what should you look for? Here are some tips and tricks. 1. WHAT ARE THE LOGISTICS? This might be the last thing on your mind, but it is very important if cost is a factor. Difficult logistics mean more planning and perhaps additional costs from your vendors and longer set-up time. It also increases the chance of hiccups on the day of! 2. WHAT ARE THE HOUSE RULES? If you're dreaming of your wedding party doing shots as the night grows longer, you may want to check if your venue allows for this! A growing number of wedding venues have started to ban shots. Other rules to keep an eye out for is cleaning, hours allowed at the venue, and outside vendors. 3. WHAT DO THEY REQUIRE FROM YOUR VENDORS For vendors to be allowed on venue grounds, requesting a COI (Certificate of Insurance) is pretty standard (we carry a 2M+ General Liability Insurance for example). However, some venues may require additional information or paperwork from your vendors. If your venue is owned by the government you may have to apply for an Event License (depending on your area). 4. WHAT ARE THEIR BACK-UP PLANS? What happens if it rains on the day of your wedding? Does the venue have an outdoor and indoor option? Will rain or other weather troubles require you to rent additional items? 5. THINK OF YOURSELF AND YOUR GUESTS It is easy to get caught up in what your guests will think of your venue, but keep in mind that this is your day and it needs to feel great from your point of view too! Who better to ask for Venue advice than someone who spends every weekend at different venues? Here is our guide to the 3 best venues in LA (according to us!). 1. Houdini Estate - The Houdini Estate is a hidden gem of an estate on Laurel Canyon and features 3 levels, artifacts from Houdini's life as well as overnight possibilities. Yes, you can sleep there for your first night as husband and wife after all the guests are gone! Now, it can be a logistical nightmare because of the different levels and stairs (then again...if you hire great professionals - you'll never know!), but this is one of the most magical, mystical and romantic venues in all of Los Angeles. Bonus points for having an eclectic mix of statutes and a garden dedicated to Houdini's tricks. 2. SmogShoppe - a converted Smog Check Center is the foundation of this beautiful and trendy venue located on La Cienega. The space does not remind you of a smog check anymore, except for the cool tools and parts displayed above the bathroom doors. Tbh all Marvimon venues are a great place to throw a wedding (and work!), but the SmogShoppe holds a special place in our hearts. The light design is spectacular and manages to feel cool and warm at the same time. Plenty of green plants and an industrial charm is what you get at SmogShoppe (plus the nicest venue managers). 3. Alexandria Ballrooms - If getting married in a European style ballroom is your dream or you want a historic backdrop to your wedding, then the Alexandria is hands down your best choice. This old hotel (now converted to apartments and a wedding venue) has housed prominent guests such as Marlene Dietrich, Charlie Chaplin, Harry Houdini, and a few kings and presidents from all over the world. The front desk of the hotel has been turned into a beautiful bar, and the second level ballroom is a princess dream come true. If you choose the downstairs Palm Court, you can even say that you got married in the same room as Charlie Chaplin held his wedding!
