Calling all wedding planning couples! 🗣️
After finishing a wedding timeline for an upcoming couple, I knew this could be a good resource to summer couples (or really any couples!) who may be struggling with building their own timeline or envisioning what their wedding evening will look like!
Let’s talk about some of the decisions we made for their big day!
-The private moment
With Rust + Relics as your Planners, we will ALWAYS include a private moment for the newlyweds post-ceremony. This is a great time to unwind, relax + be ALONE for the only time during the day!
We’ve also had couples use this time to read private vows or letters to each other in the past.
-First dance timing
We usually suggest breaking up the formal dances during the evening. Why? Well for starters, I know the klutz that I am and I would for sure spill something on my dress during dinner if I waited till after I ate to do my first dance (and I know I’m not alone in this!) 😂
But mainly it’s because peoples attention spans usually can’t sit through 3+ formal dances if they are all together (and nothing is more frustrating than people talking or getting up during your special dances!😵💫) We want everyones full attention when you + your partner share your first dance!
-Addition of the Anniversary Dance
The Anniversary Dance is such a sweet addition that we love to see added to receptions. While I leave the official timings up to the DJ/MC, I always suggest doing this during the early stages of your dance floor being open. Doing this helps make sure that all of your guests are still present and don’t miss out on being the longest reigning marriage!

“A seating chart is a total waste of your time!”
“There’s no point to having a seating chart 🙄”
“Just let your guests sit where ever they want! You don’t want to make that decision for everyone…do you?”
We’re here to advise you NOT to listen to that advice and put the effort into making a seating chart for your big day!!! 👏🏻 Why?! Let’s talk about it!
-With open seating, you run the risk of having empty seats at your tables.
We get it… a family of 5 doesn’t want to split up into two tables! But if you don’t have at least assigned tables that may be their only option!
-To piggy back off the point above, you should probably have an extra table or two to account for tables that aren’t 100% full.
Extra tables = extra florals/candles/linens/place settings etc. = extra $$$$
-Majority of your guests will actually be HAPPY they don’t have to figure out where to sit during your reception!
There’s no stress to them having to find a seat right away to make sure they have enough saved for their friends/family. You’ve done the work for them! 🤗
In our opinion, a seating chart is more than just extra signage/decor to your wedding day (even though we LOVE a creative seating chart display!) It’s a sense of ease for your guests and we promise it wont be a waste of your time!

Let’s get vulnerable for a bit 🫣
One of our goals for this year was to be better about taking BTS content during wedding days + we’re happy to report that we’ve been doing MUCH better this year!
Even though we have much more content this year than any previous years, it’s still a struggle some days to make time and grab photos + videos during a wedding day 🫠
If we don’t grab BTS footage, it’s mostly because we are all hands on deck setting up, assisting vendors or completing tasks for the couple so we try to give ourselves grace BUT we’re always looking to improve!
We know we can’t be the only wedding vendor who struggles with this (or at least we hope we aren’t 😂). If you have tips on how to be more successful at capturing behind the scenes content during a wedding, we’d love to hear them!

Your wedding planner is constantly working on your big day (even if they are taking a quick break!) From set up to break down and everything in between- we have you covered! 💁🏼♀️
So what are some tasks we do that no one is looking? Let’s talk about a few!
-Prep and prepare anyone giving a toast
About 5-10 minutes prior to toasts starting, we’ll touch base with whoever is giving a toast and tell them the order of toasts, where they need to stand and remind them to grab a fresh beverage!
-Remind the parents about their special dances
Imagine this, your MC announces the father/daughter dance and dad is no where to be found 👀 Prepping your family members for their special dances avoids any awkward lulls during this time!
-Keep our couples hydrated
No matter your beverage of choice, we are here to make sure you’re never thirsty! I mean… who doesn’t love a cocktail during post-ceremony photos?! 🥂
-Make sure the marriage license is signed ✍🏼
Arguably one of the most important details of the day is making sure your marriage is signed so your I do’s are official!!

Here are some of the most commonly forgotten budget items we’ve seen with our past couples-
✨Tastings and Trials
Your tastings and trials are such an important step during wedding planning. I mean- imagine finding out on your wedding day that you don’t like your hair and makeup or the food you’re serving?! This service is sometimes included with your catering or beauty package, but it’s best to always budget ahead for them.
✨Wedding Dress Alterations
🗣️Almost every wedding dress will need alterations to get the perfect fit! (and they can be pricey!) What’s the best way to plan for this? Have an open conversation with your Bridal Stylist during your appointment on what you should be expecting for alterations. This gives you a handful of months to prepare how you’re going to pay for those needed adjustments.
✨Vendor Meals
Is it time to send in your final head count? Don’t forget to add your vendors! As your planners, we will gather the total number of vendor meals needed (as well as any dietary restrictions we should be aware of) and add that to your final guest count before sharing it with your catering team.
✨Postage
Stamps can add up QUICK! With your STD’s, invitations and thank you cards, you’ll find yourself spending more on postage than you ever imagined 🫠 Especially because a lot of invitations suites need multiple stamps! (we’re looking at you wax seals 🙄)
✨Getting Ready Food
Who wants a hangry wedding party?! Not us! 😂 This is a detail that is usually forgotten about until the very end of wedding planning. For me, I KNEW I wanted Chick Fil A nuggies on my wedding day so we ordered ahead and had a pick up ready in the morning. Quick + easy! 👏🏻
