Ag Adventure helps connect our entire community, from the youngest child to the oldest adult, with Iowa farmers and the wide world of agriculture. The interactive exhibit includes stations representing all types of Iowa agriculture, with popular stations featuring farm equipment, corn production, and livestock. On Thursday June 16th, Ag Adventure will help kick-off the Adair Sesquicentennial from 5:30-7:30 P.M. at the Adair-Casey School. Then, on Saturday, June 18th, the hands-on experience organized by the non-profit, Ag 4 All, will take center stage at Good Egg Days 2022 in Stuart’s Lawbaugh Park from 12:30-2:30 P.M. Celebrating Independence Day 2022, the Ag 4 All volunteers will be on hand in Greenfield immediately following the “Star Spangled Homecoming” parade which starts at 11:00 A.M. on July 4th.
What kind of Iowa Ag Adventure would fail to include a live pig? Pork production is just one area in which Iowa leads the nation. Thanks to AMVC Management Services, community festival goers will have the opportunity to meet a recently-weaned pig. Members of the Adair County Pork Producers will be on hand not only to introduce you to the pig, but will also share insights about baby pig care in modern agricultural settings.
Handing off the pig to Ag Adventure organizers was Sophie Hansen, the public relations specialist for AMVC Management Services. Hansen, who attended Adel DeSoto Minburn Community Schools, has deep family farming roots in Audubon County where AMVC Management Services has its headquarters.
An Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences graduate, Hansen holds a degree in Agricultural Business with a minor in Animal Science. She and her sister grew up helping in their family’s cattle operation, HCC Angus Beef, but Hansen also gained first-hand experience in raising hogs as a 4-H member. A group of livestock enthusiasts from her club purchased a group of pigs together. Everyone took turns doing chores, and each group member was able to exhibit a pig as part of the project. Experiences like this encouraged Hansen to be open to a variety of opportunities within agriculture that she might have otherwise missed.
After a stint working in the livestock feed industry in Minnesota, in 2020, Hansen joined the staff at AMVC Management Services. According to Hansen, the company provides veterinary support, nutritional counseling, marketing options, and employee solutions. She says the company’s focus on animal well-being, environmental stewardship, and sustainability is a good match for the values she developed growing up in the livestock industry.
An on-going supporter of Ag 4 All, AMVC Management Services, is committed to telling the story of pork production and the agricultural industry to as broad of an audience as possible. Stop by Ag Adventure at one of the three community celebrations.
The pork production station is just one of many stations included in Ag Adventure. Ag Adventure is a great way to dive into summer, celebrate Iowa agriculture, and strike up a conversation with an Iowa farmer. Come share your questions, concerns, perhaps a story or two, and definitely a smile with the men, women, and young people dedicated to feeding, fueling, and clothing Iowa, the U.S., and the world.
