I want to thank Six Million Dead, Project BC, TRIBUS, Wavelengths, One Way Sky, Community Pancake and Dritty Pope for performing at the Native REZ-olution Youth Concert XIII. And Mr. & Mrs. Tsosie for providing sound. And to the fans of music for attending and all those that helped in any way to make this a successful concert. THANK YOU!!!
It takes a lot of work, as anyone in the business knows, it take many hours of preparation and organization. Working with many people to make sure everything is taken care of. And with the help of the Tribal departments to ensure everyone is taken care of is a necessity for everyone’s well-being. Things change and of course things can always be improved but griping about it and not making a consorted effort to work with what you have is no one else’s fault but your own.
I’ve been putting on the Youth Concert for 13 years now. And have had over 80 bands on our stage. Every band appreciates the hospitality we provide. Every band always wants to come back and play. They leave knowing we took care of them with respect and the honor they deserve as our guests.
The people who attend enjoy the show. Key word those that attend. I admit music is varied in every aspect. We all have different likes and dislikes but we cannot discredit anything because we don’t appreciate what’s presented to us. We have a choice to enjoy ourselves or not to. But for all those I’ve spoken to have all said positive things about the show. And I’ve spoken with bands for next years show already. They want to play here!!!
Hosting multiple events during the fair is challenging and the very long hours. The literal blood sweat and tears are worth every second a Youth is enjoying themselves headbang while watching the bands. Or sweating and crying every year trying to eat five jalapeños to win and be crowned grand champion!!! I want to thank all who were involved in every way who have helped me make the Native Rez-olution Youth Concert XIII and the 21st Annual Jalapeño a Eating Contest a success. I cannot name you all here as there are a lot of you. But you know what you did and please share with your friends and loved ones that you were a part of an awesome event. I will share your names and businesses in a thank you letter in an upcoming issue of The Southern Ute Drum. And for those who have stepped up every year you are truly appreciated because you know what it takes to get something like this done. But please take this away with you. I do not put on these events for me. This is FOR YOU! I do these for you to enjoy yourselves. I put on the concert for everyone but especially for the youth. A moment with a very dear friend of mine shared during the concert summed it all up, which I truly believe in and the whole purpose for the concert. I asked her, “what do you see” lip-pointing to the mosh pit of kids during a show years ago. “What do they all have in common?” She replied, “a bunch of black tshirts!” We laughed. I said, “they are all smiling!”
Always remember the good times, for those times make us smile. Forget the negative those come and good. But hold onto the good things in life. It’s never easy. And sometimes we want to give up. But remember why you do the things you do. To bring happiness. By bringing happiness to others - you bring happiness to yourself.

GETTING CLOSER!!!
I will be hosting a couple events, as in previous years, the 21st annual JALAPENO EATING CONTEST (9/9/23) and the NATIVE REZ-OLUTION YOUTH CONCERT XIII (9/9/23) as part of the three-day 101st annual SOUTHERN UTE TRIBAL FAIR & POWWOW (Sept. 8-10, 2023). These events would not be possible without the support of the the SOUTHERN UTE TRIBE and SOUTHERN UTE CULTURAL PRESERVATION DEPT. and their staff. These are community supported events and many people are involved to make these events happen every year. Of course all the assistance I get is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU ALL in advance!!! So come out and enjoy, bring your family and friends. There will be many contests and events throughout the three-day event. We will also be in the PARADE. The Jalapeño Eating Contest is OPEN TO EVERYONE! And the Youth Concert is FREE for ALL AGES, and is a DRUG & ALCOHOL FREE EVENT. There will also be a FIREWORKS DISPLAY at dusk!

Due to commitments Merciless Indian Savages (MIS) had to drop from the Youth Concert. We want to wish them blessings in their continued journey as they ROCK THAT NATIVE NATION. TRIBUS from Gallup will be rocking our stage in MIS' place. We want to thank Tribus for jumping into the show without hesitation!
They will be joining Six Million Dead, Project BC, Wavelengths, One Way Sky, Community Pancake with special guest emcee Dritty Pope. (See updated concert flyer below)

GEARING UP FOR 2023!
Already have bands showing interest in the Youth Concert this year! Looking like it's going to be a great 13th annual youth concert. As always it's been about providing a safe, drug and alcohol free event for the YOUTH of our community and for all to enjoy some great music, meet the bands and be inspired to create, whether it be through music, or art – whatever their dreams may be. I want them to be inspired to say, "if they can do, why can't I?" Stay tuned!

A CONCERT FOR THE YOUTH, to give them a safe, drug and alcohol free environment to hang out with friends and rock out! Giving them an opportunity to meet the bands and be inspired to achieve their own dreams, whether it be music, art, writing, photography, whatever it may be.
It's always been about the youth, a free concert, it's not about making money, never has been, never will!
Inspired by a few young native dudes, having a moshpit beside my truck as I watched the fireworks display in 2005! Saying, "we should have a concert next year" the rest is history.
I have always made this a concert of Native American bands/artists/performers, so the youth of our community can meet them and be inspired, not by the mainstream music crammed down their throats, but to see Natives doing it their own way.
When the late Chairman Jimmy Newton Jr. passed away in 2014 I dedicated the show to him. As he was instrumental in bringing back the concert, in his words, "we need to have something for the kids" he was always thinking about the youth. He brought the three entities of the Tribe together to make it happen, and we made it happen!
The concert is for the youth, the concert has many supporters, young and old, many people donate time, blood, sweat and tears to make this happen, every year. It will always be about the kids first and foremost, the music may not be for everyone, but the kids – the youth – enjoy it every year!
