The clouds looked like they were about to overflow from the moment we met. They didn’t do a first look, didn’t want the added stress of anticipation and coordination. I love giving big permission for couples to do what is best for them. To shut out what everyone else is doing. Fortunately being a couple that chose to elope they were are already on that path. The first few moments for these two I just watched how it was for them to be with each other. Internally I watched them take a few a deep breaths through some awkwardness and a bit of sweet anxious excitement. But once they settled, I saw the spark that initiated this whole big day! They leaned into the moment, the overcast sky, their inside jokes and the once in lifetime moment to declare such big love to the world. The ritual of it that I trust is echoing big love in their day to day.

Gonna go surf in a minute cause it is glorious conditions out there but want to leave this here. Cause these are glorious conditions too, I mean just look at that light, but the deeper beauty I see is in the way these two look at each other and what I sensed being with these two. That as long as these two are together the conditions are always just right💕

I am a self reflection j***y and so I get lots of energy from this time of year. In looking back on the kind of year Elope Maui has had I am in awe. The radiance of each couple really shown through in the way we collaborated to create their wedding day. It was a new way of planning I had never experienced. The elopements I plan are really for those who are not looking for cookie cutter options and man did my clients understand that this year! New venues, new islands and new cultural traditions. And a common them this year was multi-day elopements. Each unique with their ideas and ways of going about them, but the main thing is that they were really doing what was right for them, right for the amount of celebration their love deserves! But especially about taking advantage of the amount of diversity this island offers!

I have spiritual growth happening, physical goals evolving, relationships I am nourishing and it’s no different with Elope Maui. I got a recent inquiry for a private helicopter ride and also another one for a picnic with best views on the island. How great are those?! I don’t keep up with Pinterest these days. I have stamina for like one social media platform in my life! But I used to post there when I first started Elope Maui and I came across those pictures this week. I was delighted to still feel like they say what I want them to say about love and connection. That love is timeless and like your love your images should reflect that too. It’s so important for me to keep this at the heart of what I do.

It’s hard for me to share images and pictures in social media right away. There is a sacred nature to what I witness. I need time to process. I need time to find the words and to choose the right images to tell the story. And I want the couple to have time with their experience before sharing with world. They chose a private elopement and so I think there is something about continuing to honor that.

We are creating art to hang on your walls. We want the generations to come to see who you two were and where this all started. Creating time on your wedding day to really settle into being your true selves in front of the camera, explore and experience the surroundings is how to get some of these timeless moments. This just isn’t done with a quick ceremony and a few photos afterwards. You two deserve so much more than that. It’s really why I created these collections that start at 3 hours. I see over and over again how the day unfolds when there is no rush and less agenda.

Believe it or not it poured rain during their ceremony on the cliffs before this. You totally can’t tell in these images, all you can sense is the utter joy of being together and celebrating in a freshly rain blessed rain forest. A recent couple told me that they just googled the word ‘elopements’. That they knew they wanted to elope but didn’t know what that looked like. They were open to any where in the world and any experience! They really had no clue what they wanted. And something really special happened when they landed on my website. They found what they didn’t even know they were looking for!! I love fulfilling a vision but being a part of actually putting a vision in a couple’s heart for one the most important day of their lives is such a fun thing to be a part of! I’m honored and grateful when this happens like this! I know this island plays a big role in what draws people here to elope and I really keep it at the forefront of my mind to communicate how to protect it’s beauty and unique culture.

Never met a more relaxed, ready to get married couple! The more I have the privilege of witnessing wedding days and all the big feelings that go into them the more I am convinced that setting up expectations and giving you tools to feel ready and calm is the biggest part of what I do. And it’s different for each day and each couple depending on the location, time of day, if there are guests and the momentd planned. I’m extremely sensitive to all of this and think it’s my super power to treat each day so uniquely.

In the Hawaiian language (‘ōlelo) there are hundreds of way to describe the types of rain there are. Such a romantic way of living and evidence of their intimacy with the natural world. 💙

Are you a numbers couple?! Like are you trying to get married on a certain anniversary or just love those repetitious or symbolic or catchy numbers?! Most couples I work with could care less actually just plan on getting married a day or two after they arrive here. I usually suggest a weekday cause there are less people out and about! But this gorgeous couple got married on 2.22.22 which believe me was a wildly popular date! But what made this couple very unique is that they were actually celebrating their 11 year anniversary. They started dating on 2.22.11. Gosh I think that is so amazing and special!
