Non-traditional wedding cakes can bring a beautiful creative element to your overall design.

It is very common to have an all white wedding cake with flowers that match the bouquets. Naked cakes, or cakes without icing on the outside so that the cake is exposed, are popular too. But have you seen a tower of mini cakes with an ombre effect? Cake artists love the challenge of creating new and exciting masterpieces.

You will likely find yourself just about to check off a big to-do from your planning list when all of the sudden you get hit with another decision to make. This may happen when you finalize your cake design and then your cake artist asks if you want to use real or fake flowers and you have no idea what to choose.

Edible flowers can certainly add a wow factor to your cake that guests can admire. Real flowers can perfectly compliment the floral design of the rest of your wedding as your florist will provide them. But make sure you plan for who is in charge of putting flowers on the cake if you choose to go with real ones. Your cake make be delivered before your florist arrives so the cake artist may not be there to do it. Your florist may not feel comfortable placing flowers on the cake. Do you have a planner that feels comfortable with this responsibility? Be sure to figure out these logistics when making cake and floral design decisions.

Choosing the height of your centerpieces is an important decision based on your venue and layout.

If your seated meal takes places in a ballroom with high ceilings, tall centerpieces will draw the eye up, enhancing the grandeur of the space. If your space has panoramic views of a city skyline, low centerpieces will fill the tables with lush florals, while not blocking the amazing view for your guests.

Having a gift table at your wedding seems like a simple decision to make but you may still find yourself stumped.

If you are not sure if you should have a place for your guests to drop off gifts then consider your registry and your guest list. Have multiple items been purchased from your registry? Have you had gifts arrive at your house because they were mailed directly to you? Often times, guests will only bring an envelope. Consider displaying a card box on a table along with a bridal portrait or couple portrait and other small decor items. Guests will know to leave their gifts at or right next to this table and you will be able to show off more of your wedding style.

Your stationary inspiration can truly come from anything, even your attire.

For example, if you fell in love with your dress because of the romantic embroidery details, tie this into other areas of your wedding. Many cake artists will replicate lace beautifully and your invitations can compliment these details as well. To take it one step further, purchase extra lace from your dress and use it in other places, such as wrapping it around the bouquets.

Did you know that there will be 2.5 million weddings in 2022? Make sure you secure all your favorite vendors, from the florist to the caterer, before they are booked up.

Having an arbor at your wedding can create a beautiful backdrop to your ceremony.

Sometimes venues have arbors onsite that just need a few decorative touches to match your style. Other venues may be a blank canvas and you may need to rent all of your ceremony decor. Keep in mind that the most stunning arbors come together through design. You can work with your florist and planner to come up with a combination of florals and/or draping to establish the look you are going for.

Decor budgets can be tricky when all of your rental items, decor pieces, and wedding party flowers start adding up.

Maybe when you initially set the decor budget, you forgot to think about chairs, linens, or even charger plates because these items do not sound very decorative. Now you find yourself in a tough spot because you do not have as much funds allocated to your decor as you would like. Do not stress! Some ruthless editing to your design and decor can help you to still accomplish the look and feel you are going for. For example, reuse your ceremony chairs in your reception space. Be sure to ask your venue if they have the team to support the move of the chairs. If so, you just cut your chair rental costs in half.
