You win some, you lose some. 😔 We think that small businesses need to be ok showing their losses just as much as they show their wins. It helps bring this “rat race” back down to earth and shows that not everything in owning a small-business is as glamorous as shown on social media.
We have always touted our tents as being weatherproof and can handle whatever is thrown at it, apparently, and unfortunately, a bomb-cyclone is where that line is drawn. The only weak link in the tent is the zipper portion on the bottom that holds the base with the waxed-canvas, and that’s exactly where water chose to sneak in and flood the entirety of the floor. Fortunately for us, the setup was for the nicest family (which made us feel even worse for having to postpone the party) and we’re running it again shortly with a fully dried tent for a movie night party!
We’re using this as a learning lesson:
1. Make sure all zippers are fully covered and water runoff won’t pool.
2. Now that we know it’s limitations, don’t be afraid to set barriers when booking for inclement weather (luckily for us, these bomb cyclones are a rare occurrence).
3. Remember how amazing our customers are. Not only did they text us updates (we setup then went out of town) but moved everything that wasn’t already wet to prevent further chaos. They went above and beyond, and we truly mean that we have met some of the nicest people while doing this business.
Thanks for coming to our ted-talk, and small businesses, don’t be afraid to show your losses…it makes your wins even better!
