17 years ago I embarked on the adventure of being a business owner.

Building and running a small business is hard. You deal with outside forces that you can't control like recession and pandemic and internal pressure to be successful and make your clients happy. There are early mornings, late nights and dreaded bookkeeping. But it is so satisfying knowing you are doing work you love.

Success can be defined many different ways. One way is for a business that you have you created, nurtured and grew to continue even when you are no longer involved. That is where Red Letter Event Planning is today. I am pleased and excited to announce that ownership of is transferring to Jessica English and Reagan Van Gelder.

Jessica and Reagan have been an important part of Red Letter's story. I am confident they will continue to grow and improve the business for many years to come.

Thank you to everyone-clients, vendor partners, and those that have worked as assistants these past 17 years it has been an honor to work with each of you.

Cheers to the new era of Red Letter Event Planning with Jessica and Reagan!

It is Christmas week! Hoping you get to spend some quality time with family and friends. is taking some time off for the holiday so we can recharge for the 2022 season!

Yesterday I celebrated my birthday by taking some time off and using creativity by attending a Thanksgiving centerpiece class by Flowers by Lily Garland

It was so much fun to play with all the fall flowers. Also great to see Lisa from Cloud Nine Bridal there as well! As you can see we are pretty proud of what we put together.

It is important in this industry to have fun and be creative outside of work and bonus I have a beautiful centerpiece for my Thanksgiving table!

Typically a local company hires me to plan their holiday party and they always want a "theme" as I was perusing my Pinterest boards last night I came across the concept that I started working on after last year's party. A retro Christmas (think 1950s/1960s)

These were the pictures on the mood board and since I can't do the party I thought I would share them here as inspiration for anyone's small gatherings or maybe for party planning next year!

While Thanksgiving may be different this year. Setting the table will bring some normalcy even if it is for a small group. I love this guide as it is formal enough for a holiday dinner but not super stuffy with a lot of extra forks and spoons you probably won't use. Feel free to delete those elements you won't use. Though a charger is always a nice touch to a dinner table!

Thanksgiving is a week away! It is one of my favorite holidays! This year it is going to look a lot different please be smart and safe!

For Zoomsgiving some of these tips I shared on KHQ in the past are still relevant. Especially the conversation cards.

Here are some other tips as you prepare for your first virtual Thanksgiving.

Create an electronic invite use Canva as they have tons of fun (free) options.

On your email/text invite make sure it includes your Zoom link and basic instructions for those that may not be familiar with the platform.

Have those that cook share recipes so that everyone will be eating familiar family recipes.

Attach conversation cards you don't want to be talking about politics next Thursday!

Have an ipad on a tripod or your laptop near one of the seats at your table so your virtual guests get a "seat at the table view"of dinner.

If you have a large group joining your Zoomsgiving, consider assigning a younger family member as the host or co-host to manage the events (when you pray, when you toast etc), encourage conversation and troubleshoot any tech issues.

Remember, make your Thanksgiving day special not stressful.
