UAS Alumni & Friends Association

These are UAS students from 2017 - many of whom have graduated and are in our workforce now. Take a look and see if you recognize them. They are working today in Alaska as teachers, marine biologists, diesel mechanics, miners, accountants and CNA’s. Look at the names of the corporations and private donors who believed enough in higher education to contribute to their education.

They represent an investment in the future of Alaska. They aren't an institution, they aren't a line item on a budget. They are also not a drain on the economy but productive members of our state.

Alaskans believe so strongly in education that they gave a record amount - $1 million - to UAS in support of all of these programs in 2018. We are proud to have been a small part of their success and forever grateful for the partnerships we have maintained with Alaskan families and industries.

UAS joins the Juneau community in remembering former legislator, community activist and humanitarian Mike Miller.

The Mike Miller Endowed Scholarship was established by friends and family upon his retirement from the legislature in 1986 and the scholarships generated from this endowment began gifting deserving students with educational opportunities long before his death.

UAS Scholarship recipient Suhiedy Reyes shared her gratitude for the impact his legacy has on her life during an annual Scholarship Recognition event at UAS Friday, Feb. 24.

"I think people have a misconception that because we are a small community or a small college we won't get the same educational value. I tell them it's actually the opposite. I think I get more educational value because of it." says Reyes.

Thank you Mike Miller for your service to our state, our region, and our community.

Chris and Jessica planned for a year to travel to snowy Alaska for their winter wedding. While Hershey Pennsylvania was measuring snow by the foot they experienced the true rainforest. In the end the clouds lifted and they were thrilled to be at the Mendenhall Glacier for their special day.
