Any photographer who’s been creating for a while will tell you about burnout, but burnout in photography is so powerful it allows us to step back and see everything with fresh eyes.

For me it felt like I was chasing shots, getting frustrated that I didn’t have the backdrop, the wardrobe, the hair and make up team, whatever it was I thought I needed. When I heard on her Instagram live say “there are people with less doing more” it spoke to everything that was holding me back. I felt those words so deeply and when I reached out to her and she invited me into her studio sharing her process with me her thoughts her wisdom as an artist lessons she’s learned ideas she’s playing with I realized, what is in front of me is what is true to me.

told me, “I need to create for myself first, everything else will follow” I felt that deeply too.

So when I was in her studio a space that very few people will ever get to see I didn’t move a single thing. I did not pose her. I used my camera to find her truth to share her process. It was intimate and beautiful and I will forever be grateful for her presence, perspective and willingness to allow me not only to experience her studio, but to document it.

In honor of her sharing her process with me and with anyone else viewing this, here is a screenshot of my own process working through this session, making choices that honor the peace, vulnerability, and joy I felt in this space.

// S W I P E 👉🏼 // now that’s a group photo, we had this one AND the rest of the shot list taken care of in under 20 minutes after the ceremony, seriously, we timed it and everyone made it to cocktail hour, funny enough, this big group shot wasn’t even ON the list, but when I saw what was happening I leaned in. I knew if I led this crowd and took charge we could gather everyone AND still make it to cocktail hour. There’s a time for your photographer to fade into the background but when you need that last minute gigantic group shot, I’m your girl. We get everyone on board we let them know our goal (get to cocktail hour, food motivation) I say things like look to your left look to your right who’s missing?? And we send the fastest runners to fetch the missing members, there’s cheering, there’s singing... it’s a whole thing and we wrap it up fast and get back to the party. Your memories, your day, you getting to enjoy your day and be a part of it is so important to me. Yes, I’ll take beautiful posed wedding photos of you on your day... but I’m not going to drag it out. Be present, enjoy everyone who came to celebrate with you and I’ll take care of the rest. @ Hidden Hills Weddings

I’m obsessed with capturing images that stand the test of time. I believe images that are honest can do that. Styles change and trends fade... time moves forward, but no one can change how you felt in that moment know one can take away who you were for that breath.

So I talk to my clients, I listen and I watch. Closely. To how they are with each other their mannerisms their words their actions. I try to learn their love language, in such a short time. And maybe, just maybe, someday their grandchildren will pick up a photograph and feel what I saw in that moment.

// I’ve been doing photography for a while now but I really began running with the portraits when I moved to Rhode Island in 2015, it was a way for me to meet people and then I found out just how strong the creative community and photography community (s.o. to ) really is and just fell in love with photography and with this amazing little state. RI is the actual best, the ocean is never far away, the food scene is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before so many amazing places to eat, and another amazing creative soul is always right around the corner i just feel so inspired here. I’m obsessed to say the least. //
// I’m a people person and I just love make friends everywhere I go because I love meeting people and talking to people, and I think that shows through in my work. My sessions are probably 50% shooting and 50% talking (I mean I haven’t tested that theory but like probably) I think it helps me to learn about who I’m photographing and take pictures that are honest and make sense and let you’re personality shine through. I try to use prompts more then poses so I’m photographing you doing something real, like whispering goofy things in your fiancés ear then watching her face and yours fill with laughter, those are the kind of photos that make me smile like a fool when I’m editing, I just love remembering how cute those little moments were and I know (hope) you will too ✨ //
