I say these things a lot… and I always mean them: getting the opportunity immortalize a wedding day in the form of a short film is a great honor for me. Getting to do it for two people (and their families) who have been a deeper part of my life is always an extra honor. These two, as well as so many in the wedding party, AND their families, have some real special places in my heart. Memories of classrooms, theatre stages, parent teacher conferences filled with laughs, tears, joy, energy, etc. come to mind. SO, when I got the chance to shoot the day, I was SO happy to say “Yes!”
Funny story: I’ve been filming weddings for 19 years… and this wedding gave me a few “firsts.” Chief among them, in the hustle and the bustle of getting the “First Touch/ Private Vow” reading done and then QUICKLY shifting into the ceremony, someone handed ME the rings!? (please note that we finish with detail shots HOURS before this point in the day, so we can hand all those things back). Anyway, 10ish minutes later, standing in the middle of the ceremony, as the officiant asks what’s token they bring to declare their love, I had an “Oh CRAP!” moment. There, in my pocket, I felt the familiar presence of two gold wedding bands…😳😳😳
What do you do in that moment? Pretend you don’t have them?! Let someone else take the fall?! I just reached in my pocket, walked to the front of the ceremony, and handed them to the groom. It’s a moment I won’t soon forget 😬🤷🏻♂️😆
Thank you, Tanner and Kirsten (and everyone in your families) for being such gracious and wonderful people. Teaching (and shooting weddings) can be a hard gig. You are bright lights in those moments for me. 🎥💍❤️
