UPDATE: YOU ARE AMAZING!! WE HAVE EXCEEDED OUR GOAL FOR THIS GIRL. WE'LL BE GETTING HER THURSDAY!!

➡️➡️UPDATE: We've raised $550 so far. Thank you to those donors. We need to raise an additional $250. Please see donation options below. You can be part of her team of heroes.

UNDERWEIGHT PONY NEEDS OUR HELP:
Another day, another horse in dire need.
This emaciated pony needs us now. She’s in bad shape.

As we’ve stated recently, the way things are going now with donor habits locally and nationally — and the economy — we unfortunately have to “pre-fundraise” because we have to KNOW the funds are coming to help with the initial vetting costs and care costs for the animal, before we say yes.

This one will need vet care above and beyond the normal vaccinations, Coggins and dental work. At a glance it is clear she needs bloodwork. That tends to run the bill up, and swiftly.

We need to raise at least $800 to say “yes” to this pony. That will (hopefully) cover her basic vet care, diagnostic vet care and feed.

Once she’s stabilized, she’s also going to need a foster.

UPDATE: He is safely with West Virginia Horse Network, Inc..

UPDATE: We are at $290 raised. Plus, thankfully, the owner has agreed to contribute some toward his expenses. We still need to raise more...but we are almost there. Thanks to everyone for your help and shares.

****

UPDATE: We’ve only made it to $220 raised to help get this gelding safe.

***

UPDATE: Fundraising for this guy has been SLOW. So far, all platforms combined, we've only raised $120. Unfortunately if things don't pick up today, we may miss the window of opportunity to bring him into the rescue. If you are able, please consider a donation -- big or small -- it all matters.

***

We were contacted Monday to help this handsome OTTB. His owner and trainer want to do the right thing and place him directly into rescue. He is a barn favorite.
He has a prior injury, it healed and he went back to racing, but his heart isn’t in it anymore. They want him to retire gracefully.

We’d need to know the donations were there to support his hauling and vetting and that his first few months of care were covered before we can consider bringing him into the rescue.

We need to raise approximately $1,500:
$300 fuel for hauling
$600 for his first few months of feed expenses
$600 initial vetting including x-rays

We know this is a big ask right after the rally last week for Fabio.

While in the past we’ve never had to “pre-fundraise”, that is the direction we are having to go now because of the economy and the sheer volume of horses needing help right now.

Physical space isn’t the limitation. We have several amazing fosters willing to help us. Donations are our only limitation.

Can we do this? Do you want us to?

We are so grateful that his connections are trying to do the right thing for him, by donating him to the rescue to ensure he is safe moving forward. But we cannot say yes until these initial funds are there.

One of our volunteers spent a lot of time talking to his owner yesterday and this horse is a special one.

🚨Please note: We already have a lengthy list of folks interested in fostering him…so that is handled for now.
🚨We don’t know everything about him, his rideability/after the track training prospects, etc. at this second. All of that can become a priority AFTER he’s safely with us
🚨The owner/trainer would like him moved ASAP, so time is of the essence.
🚨We cannot entertain adoption interest at this time, there are numerous steps that have to come first. Once he’s safe and evaluated we’ll post an update.

MONTHLY DONOR CHALLENGE:

Times have been tough this year for most people. The price of daily living has gone up while in most families, income has not.

Non-profits, including our rescue, are facing a similar challenge.

The price of feed, hauling and basic horse care is up substantially. Along with that, more horse owners are needing assistance.

We help as many as we can through our STAI program which helps keep horses in their homes by providing temporary aid. But we have seen an enormous up tick in the number of horses belonging to senior citizens who can no longer physically or financially care for them. There's also been cases where seniors have passed away and their adult children reach out to us for help, unable to take over the care of the animals.

We've also had more adopted horses returned this year than ever before, in the majority of cases through no fault of the horse but instead because of financial strains, divorce and downsizing.

At the same time -- donations are the slowest we have experienced since we founded our organization in 2014.

After hearing about this, one of our volunteers/fosters suggested a $20 monthly donor challenge. She's challenging everyone to match her donation if they are able. If not, you can donate less...maybe even $5? Maybe more if you can?

You can become a monthly donor through our Facebook Donate Tab (blue bar) at the top of our page.

You can also do a monthly donation through PayPal. Our email address is [email protected] or you can scan the QR Code on the picture here.

We have VENMO as well:

or if you want you can mail a monthly donation to:

PO Box 973

Right now we have 10 horses on a waiting list. It has remained that long or longer all summer. As we work horses in....the list fills up again. We can only take in the number of horses that we can financially support. So until donations pick up...we will continue to have to be very cautious about the number of horses we bring into the rescue.

Please consider investing $5, $10, $20 or more a month, whatever your budget will allow...into the work we do. If you believe in what we do and enjoy seeing the transformations and success stories please help us develop a base of donations that we can count on monthly when we are making the decision to say "yes" or "I'm sorry we can't" when people contact us.

Also, please challenge your friends and family to do the same.

If you'd prefer to be a monthly sponsor for a particular horse...we welcome that too. Just send us a message letting us know which horse you want to help and we can give you an idea of their monthly expenses.

We have appreciated your support for what has been almost a decade now. We hope that you will come through to help us help horses long into the future.

If you are on the verge of having to surrender your horse to a rescue and just need a little help to allow your horse to "STAI" home....please complete this survey. We may be able to help keep you and your equine friend together.

SURVEY LINK: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5Y9BW6P

After you complete this survey, one of our Case Managers will be in touch to ask you some additional questions to help us determine the best way to help you. Please be sure to answer the phone and participate in the next phase of the process so we can get help to you as quickly as possible.

The goal of this innovative program is to help keep horses OUT of the rescue who are otherwise wanted and safe at home with just a temporary helping hand...so that we have more space for those who are truly in need.

We cannot help with things like fencing/building structures, etc. But can help with basic essentials.

Help with euthanasia and castration is also available.

Thank you to the ASPCA Right Horse for believing in our vision for this program and providing grant dollars to get it up and running. We look forward to making a tremendous difference in 2023.

A little about us

We are a small family run horse drawn carriage and wagon business with full time jobs other than our horses.

We fell in love with the Percherons about 10 years ago, thanks to a trip to the WV State Fair. After that trip, the search was on for our own pair of Percherons. Our first pair was older. Skip and Scott taught Robin to drive and taught alot of kids to drive the big horses. Of course you can’t have just two....and we now are proud owners of 5 :) .

We bought our carriage and decided we would love to share our horses with people who have that Fairy Tale Wedding or prom in their head, but not the resources. We love to see the smiles they bring on that Special Day.

We do local festivals, church events, etc. with our wagon and surrey to give people the chance to “Take a Ride Back in Time”.
