The Honey Bun has been a staple at the Flowers Foods Bakery in London since 1953. The sweet smell of honey buns and other baked goods from Flowers often envelops downtown London, providing a sensory link to a story that dates back decades with the Griffin family.
Formerly known as the Griffin Pie Company, Flowers Foods has employed thousands of people over the years and currently employs more than 600 people at its bakery on East 4th Street. The facility produces nearly 3 million pounds of honey buns, donuts, donut sticks, and fried pies every week on nine production lines. The company reports that its three honey bun lines can produce almost 60,000 honey buns per hour, totaling about 10 million honey buns per week. Additionally, its four donut lines can churn out approximately 336,000 donuts per hour when running at full capacity.
