Albert Schweitzer Organ Festival Hartford The Albert Schweitzer Organ Festival Hartford is held annually at Trinity College in Hartford on the chapel’s 78 rank Austin organ.

Now in its 27th season, the Albert Schweitzer Organ Festival Hartford brings some of the world’s best young organists to compete for significant cash prizes to support their education and career endeavors. It consists of a High School division and a Young Professional division held on alternating years. The High School performance competition this year will be held on Saturday, September 25th onli

ne. Applicants must be high school students at some point in 2021. Competition judges this year will be Simon Thomas Jacobs, Katelyn Emerson, and Julian Wachner. The competition was founded by David Spicer and previously was held at the First Church of Christ, Wethersfield. Winner of the competition’s first Young Professional prize was Paul Jacobs. Prior to the pandemic and following our 2021 competition, other aspects of the festival include an opening concert, choral evensong, and a live hymn playing competition.

The first half of our “Organ Extravaganza” concert on October 22nd at 4 PM at The Bushnell presents Camille Saint-Saëns’ beloved Third Symphony, commonly known as the Organ Symphony. Saint-Saëns’ considered it his final achievement in the symphony form. "I gave everything to it I was able to give. What I have here accomplished, I will never achieve again."

Daniel Colaner (Akron, Ohio) earned the $3,500 Second Prize as well as the $1,500 David Spicer Hymn Playing Prize.

Mélodie Michel (Paris, France) earned the $1,750 Third Prize.
