It's that time of year where my day job crosses over with my Paper Perennial life! When I'm not making paper flowers, I'm working for the nonprofit organization, OneGoal, which supports students with their post-high school aspirations. Whether it's 2 or 4 year college, trade school, certification programs, or military service, our organization helps teens navigate the increasingly circuitous path to future career success, particularly helping first generation and low income students who often don't have the generational knowledge to know how to self-advocate, pursue funding, and have the mentors essential to help them stay on the path to their dreams.
With so much uncertainty looming and new challenges already present (new FAFSA complications, Supreme Court decisions, learning loss from the pandemic, unclear Dept. Of Ed futures, teacher and counselor shortages, etc.), the work of post- high school success programs is even more vital. As you consider your giving philosophy and goals closing out 2024 and into 2025, I'd encourage you to ask me questions and consider supporting this organization's non-profit work. Right now, all donations are being matched dollar for dollar through the New York Times Communities Fund at this link: OneGoal.org/join-us/nyt-communities-fund.
I appreciate you taking a pause from my usual floral content to read about the work that I/we do outside of Paper Perennial! I am always happy to talk more about OneGoal and ways to support students in Lake County, Chicagoland, and nationally.
I'm going to be sad to see some of these go this weekend! 💛
