VETERAN RACER EARNS WIN IN MOMENTUM SPRINT CAR TOUR DEBUT

6-1-24 - The newly formed Momentum Sprint Car Tour held their debut event this past Saturday, June 1st at Colorado National Speedway, in Dacono, Colorado with veteran open wheel racer Gary Land of Littleton, Colorado coming out on top of the 25-lap main event.
The non-wing asphalt sprint car series ran qualifications early in the day, establishing a new record at the track with Frank Denning of Denver, Colorado leading the way with a time of 16.682 around the 3/8's mile oval.
In heat race action, Mike Hathaway of Falcon, Colorado took advantage of a front row starting spot and set sail to win the 10-lap heat.
The 25-lap feature event was paced by Land on the pole, with youngster AJ Luttmer from Salt Lake City, Utah to his outside after Hathaway drew a 6 pill on the invert. On the start, Land took control of the top spot but was being trailed closely by Michael Fanelli of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Dylan Riggs of Colorado Springs, Colorado. With 9 laps in the books, the race was slowed by the spinning car of Hathaway who was then contacted by Ryan Riggs. Under the caution, Dylan Riggs was black flagged for dragging parts, and brother Ryan also went to the pit area to make repairs after the contact with Hathaway.
On the ensuing restart, both Hathaway and Riggs made quick work of the mid-pack cars with Riggs eventually getting around Hathaway for 4th place. Riggs then went on an awe-inspiring charge, passing both Luttmer and Fanelli and do***ng Land in the final laps only to come up short by a few feet at the finish.
With the large position gain, Ryan Riggs was the Allstar Performance Hard Charger award winner of the event.
The Momentum Sprint Car Tour returns to racing in late July at Hwy 92 Raceway Park in Gering, Nebraska.

NEW ASPHALT SPRINT CAR SERIES ANNOUNCED

12-15-23 – Denver, Colorado- Officials from Momentum Productions are pleased to announce the formation of the Momentum Sprint Car Tour for 2024 and beyond. The tour will feature non-wing sprint cars running on asphalt ovals.

Momentum owners Cris Muhler and Mike Hathaway, both veterans of racing including sprint cars formed the series when they discussed the lack of organization in sprint car racing in the region. “We have seen a strong growth in asphalt wing sprint car racing with the events at Colorado National Speedway in the last few years, but the expense and speed of these cars left the lower budget teams at a disadvantage. In addition, the dirt sprint car scene has struggled for years and has left a big void for sprint racing for fans in the region” said Hathaway, a former series director for the ASCS Elite non-wing series in Colorado. “We want to capture the heart of sprint car racing, what makes these cars special and give that excitement to the fans. We have a lot of cars sitting in garages not getting raced, and we aim to change that” says Muhler.

The duo has formed a comprehensive ruleset that creates parity from a 410-asphalt sprint car to a 305-dirt sprint car. Muhler added, “we looked at other rule packages like the 500 Sprint car Tour as a baseline, but we added provisions for dirt specific sprint cars to make them competitive as well as provisions for any motor combination. We expect that we will have to make adjustments as we go along to ensure parity, as we want to ensure that any competitive sprint car team has the opportunity to win, no matter what combination they are running.”

At present, the series will run five races in 2024 in the high plains region of Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska. The tentative schedule will be released in early 2024, as tracks finalize their own schedules.

Momentum will host a meet and greet in January to announce schedules, rules and sponsors for the series. For more information, please visit their page: “Momentum Sprint Car Tour”.
