They were easy like Sunday morning. Garden party vibes, soft and joyful. Layered but subtle. Sophisticated. Understated elegance. Here to have fun. Their people brought a Friday night level of energy, even at Thursday's rehearsal. It was revelry with wild abandon and a late night taco wall to refuel.

We started planning when A&J lived in Austin, TX and kept planning when they moved to Charlotte, NC. We met for the first time in person just a few weeks ago on their only trip north since booking the venue. Their wedding felt incredibly authentic to the northern Michigan summer experience. Uncomplicated, relaxed, here to have fun. Natural beauty in layers. Inspiring on an effortless level. Incredibly authentic to them as a couple.

All of our weddings feel like a gift, truly. This one felt like a sweet exclamation point to the fullness of July in our world, a collective gift to the vendor team as much as it was to the guests who came with their Friday night energy to celebrate a Sunday morning couple in all the best ways 💕. Annual anniversary party already discussed because saying good-bye at the end of the night just felt felt way too soon.

Oh hey, it's the weekend already (in our world). Golf scramble, spa day, rehearsing at the beach, cocktail party, rental pickups, truck packing and napkin folding are all on the itinerary. A&J are wrapping up July and kicking off married life in style 🥂.

The crane is a symbol of love. 1000 origami cranes are considered lucky, a traditional expression of 1000 years of happiness and prosperity in marriage. S*M had 2000 origami cranes at their wedding.

Blue and white cranes accented the seating display. Colorful patterned cranes perched on the cocktail tables next to vibrant floral. A shadowbox of cranes accompanied the sign explaining the significance of these aviary beauties.

The origami masterpiece of S*M's weekend was a chandelier suspended over the dance floor. It was artistry in flight, a flock of vibrant cranes dancing in the breeze. It was the happiness, prosperity & luck of 1000 years depicted in unforgettable fashion.

We've been excited to see these symbols of love in the tent at since one of the earliest conversations about a year and a half ago. What we didn't know back then is how much love they would show us before they were unveiled in all their glory over the dance floor. We didn't know that friends and family would help S with folding, not just 1000 cranes but 2000. We didn't know that S's dad would engineer a chandelier structure made from hoops attached to a metal frame. We didn't know back then that each crane would need to be glued to its spot on a fishing line and that the bottom crane would get a fishing weight to keep the lines from getting tangled (totally worked). And we didn't know those cables for attaching would be 18' off the ground, sending dad to Menard's on rehearsal day for rigging supplies.

I was on a ladder during the ceremony, unwrapping some of the final strands of cranes carefully wrapped in tissue paper. While S*M kicked off their 1000 years of happy and prosperous marriage luck, I thought about how lucky they were, that all of us were, to witness the love that these cranes already symbolized, just in the way they showed up. Crafted and engineered in an astounding show of love by friends and family. It was an idea that could have turned into just a few cranes here and there. It could have landed in a pile on the dance floor, ripped down in the wind. But it took flight with the kind of love that happy marriages are built on. 💕

Downtown Detroit on a Friday night is high energy. From the rooftop patio of we can hear the rev of fancy car motors cruising the streets with their flashy glowing wheels and catch the music of a street vendor's boom box over the hustle of people out on the town, laughing as they pass under the Gucci store on the corner. It's a scene bursting with life and action, a prelude of sorts to the celebration of K&M happening under the iconic glass Birdy Room above. Even the dinner scene in adjacent Bixby Hall dressed up in a fresh textural palette of bright greens and pinks for the high-spirited occasion.

Place and design set such a tone for an event, but the people truly make the party. I'm convinced that we could have celebrated K&M over hot dogs at a tailgate party in a parking lot and it would have been epic. Their people are just that wildly enthusiastic and supportive. A bridal party attentive at every turn, parents whole-heartedly generous and joyful, guests who brought the house down when they walked into the room and again when Sparty made a surprise appearance to kick off the dance party. To quote one of the dad speeches, "I won't be around for you forever, but looking at the people you've surrounded yourselves with, I know they will be around for you and you'll be just fine."

What an honor. We celebrate in some of the most inspiring spaces with people who make the party remarkable and creative vendors who rise to the occasion. K&M's effortless style was both trend-setting in design and guest -focused in experience. Intentional. Wildly joyful. Deeply felt.

Thanks, K&M (and Kappa sorority connections) for bringing us to downtown Detroit on a Friday night. To quote that late night conversation outside the elevator, it was just SO GOOD ❤️ 💃 🥂 and we are incredibly lucky to have been part of the fun!

Last weekend on the lake was transportive.

“Hey! It’s Alexi here…

I was beyond blessed to spend this past weekend (as lead planner) with an incredible, thoughtful family and numerous hardworking, dedicated vendors. Through three days of festivities including a sentimental welcome gathering, a day on the lake cruising efoils and receiving relaxing massages, and a heartfelt ceremony & candlelit dinner party, one truth was revealed to me—as we move slow, time moves with us.

I paused on Friday to take in the scene of a close group of family and friends being able to enjoy the presence of one another at a residence which holds generations of fond memories in its walls. As I heard the calming voice of Frank Sinatra and other classics, I was overcome with joy and gratitude to be part of an experience in a space where families spend time and slow down with each other. All weekend the residence felt like another world—removed from noise, busyness, deadlines, and the world in general. Phones were turned off, cares forgotten, and experiences embraced. The walls and lawns are now overflowing with new memories to cherish for generations beyond.

To the vendors—thank you for playing a pivotal role in a truly ethereal, spiritual experience. We could not be more grateful to each of you for making magic and new memories at the family cottage.  Your expertise alongside the heart of the place brought the event to an unmatched level.

To my j&l team—I could not have done this without your calming support, your non-stop hard work, and dedication to the vision.  To Stacy- the wisdom and guidance I have gained from your leadership is priceless.  

To our dream clients and their families—your kind words, loving nature, and intentionality will stick with me forever.  It was a privilege and honor to lead the team in bringing your incredible vision to life, to create a weekend where time slowed down to celebrate you.  We’ll be reveling in the moments of this weekend for years to come.

It was the way those veils trailed in the wind over a vintage mustang the color of the cherries in the orchard they were driving thru, but it was also the mustang moment in a first look with dad that brought him to tears along with the whole bridal party watching from the hillside. It was the way our painter looked like a painting herself against the blue sky while our bagpiper followed the pup in our processional and then we got goosebumps as A came into view on dad's arm. And then P and her dad rode up to the aisle in the mustang.

It was the seating chart with scenes of P&A's favorite places, but it was especially the people who traveled in from those special places to celebrate P&A. It was the birch arch and aisle stumps that hearkened to A's Colotado roots. It was the seaglass place cards alongside the coral napkins that hearkened to P's east coast roots. It was the way the suspended blooms over the head table swayed in a breeze off the bay around a crystal chandelier, but also the way that the blue hydrangea and the mix of colorful bushes at the tent entrance played a fusion of east coast cottage and mountain meadow wildflower moments.

It was a couple clearly loved by their people but also clearly admired by their vendors. It was a day that felt so incredibly full of joy and authenticity and beauty, but it was also the months of fun conversations, design meetings and debriefing over lattes on Old Mission Peninsula. It was the first phone call, but it was also the late night text after that cherry red mustang brought them to the hotel with a to-go box of dinner. It was one we couldn't wait to celebrate, but it is still one I am not ready to end.

P&A, cheers to the Fireball that brought us all to this weekend. Already miss you two 💕 🥂.

I am 1000% convinced that anticipation is half the experience. And reminiscing is half the experience. Which means the experience itself is a total bonus round.

We kicked off our summer with a run of 5 weddings in 6 weeks and they've already been defining 2024 in beautiful ways. Next up, we're rocking an itinerary of 4 weddings in 2 weeks, our heaviest action stretch of the season. Emails are just never caught up this time of year, but gosh, it's glorious to see all the months of winter dreaming and spring refining come to life in high energy and fun fashion. July, you overwhelm us in all the best ways 🥂.

Our mission (from A's mom) was to choose 4 tall trees for the tent. A (bride) drove the golf cart down rows of nice tall trees at Zimmerman's Landscaping. We tagged 4 of them. So on mission. And then we got a little sidetracked by the blue hydrangea and came away with an order of 4 potted hydrangea and an assortment of trees. We weren't sure how it would go over with mom but we had the best time on our golf cart detour and seeing the blue of the goblets with the blue of those hydrangea, we're pretty sure mom approved in the end. Rented trees and bushes for the win, yet again!

Nature inspires northern Michigan weddings. The beauty of lakes, forests, farmland and vineyards resonates on such an authentic level. It's literally a "down to earth" vibe.

But "down to earth" can get fancy, too. Last weekend's design for A&S was inspired by the birch trees growing next to an old stone foundation on the family property. lit them up for us (electric forest style) next to the reception tent. Inside the tent, linen textures, silver rimmed plates and black chairs evoked the bark of our favored tree. Real trees at the tent poles and sprigs of eucalyptus tucked in napkins brought a fresh natural contrast and moments of blue in the goblets, napkins and floral in birch vases softened the look. I'm calling it "modern birch forest" and when the sun filtered in across the scene after that morning's rain, my heart jumped a little. Like it does on a forest hike when the lighting hits just right. Inspired by nature and inspired by the stylish taste of clients like A and her mom (we miss you already ❤️).

Reliving last weekend in slow motion as the sneak peeks hit my inbox yesterday from . The joy, the pearly cowgirl boots, the touch of blue floral that fades delicately into the blue of the sky behind that birch arch on the patio, the carabiner holding rings on a pup ring pillow strapped to the harness (genius), that vintage mini-moke getaway car with a boxwood wreath framing the just married sign and tin cans painted by mom in the colors of the wedding trailing behind - it was all so thoughtful and so authentically them. It was the intimate prelude to the tented reception that followed.

Nestled on a hill overlooking Lake Leelanau, A walked down the aisle on her parents' patio to marry S in front of two dozen family and close friends. Their two pups joined the processional and delivered the rings on a carabiner. Uncle Charles played the piano. A birch arch crafted by the family framed the couple with a view of the lake behind them. The getaway ride was a vintage mini moke down to a tented reception with 75 more people joining the celebration. Seriously, how do we get so lucky to work in these conditions with such fun, creative, down to earth people?! Such a dream.

Also a dream that we had on drone coverage because these angles capture the setting so beautifully.

Props to Liz for hair styling and officiating, Lauren for makeup, for the chairs and for lovely flowers.

We're really into trees in northern Michigan. Pines, willows, driftwood - they are a standout element in so many of our weekends. Today, the natural elegance of birch trees inspired everything from the color palette to the linenn texture to the dinner plates. And more. But more on that after we see it all come to life doe A&S. Bar menu with a Boston skyline. Literally, the graphic of a view that was so good, we rearranged our timeline so that guests would sit for dinner just before the warm glow of sunset faded into the flicker of candlelight among the roses. Bride's idea and also her handiwork with the bar menu.

Throwing back to 2022 with the best memories of this adventure. Also, actually started this post to say that we've paused new bookings until early August (unless you are already holding a date with us). Emails tend to pile up this time of year when event hours sometimes outnumber office hours. It's a dance we do every summer. Starts slow and shifts into a tango in quick order. I call it "living the dream".

We got really lucky with the weather yesterday. I mean, it poured as predicted, a steady rain with surges of intensity that flooded nearby roads and clocked the rain meter at a respectable 4.5" of accumulation. If that saying of "rain is good luck on your wedding day" is true, then B&T are indisputably one of the luckiest couples we know.

In fact, they felt lucky at the end of the night. So lucky, that while friends headed to the after-party, B lingered in the barn, not ready for it to end quite yet. We gave a another toast around a bottle of lemoncello and it will forever be one of my favorite memories of their weekend. It was way more than a "we survived rainmageddon" toast. It was a "that was incredibly epic" toast.

The magic of that rainy day was in the people under the umbrellas. The rain didn't dampen their spirits. In fact, it inspired a deeper resolve to celebrate, a comeraderie to weather the conditions and have the best of times with a couple clearly beloved by their people. To quote a guest at the ceremony, "We hope it thunders while we're dancing. That would be so cool." Whether rain brings luck or not, it absolutely revealed how lucky B&T already are, to have people who embrace the storms alongside them. That is such a gift.

While rain brought its own gifts to the party, this one had a lot of soul on its own. It had a romantic nostalgic vibe that felt right at home on the historic farm. Grandma's swan planters spilling over with flowers next to a vintage styled heart-shaped cutting cake, vases of dried hydrangea from mom's garden, tied with trailing bows behind the bar, homemade cytrynowka (Polish lemoncello) for dad's toast, pierogi for dinner and packzi for dessert, dad's bottle of wine, purchased on the day B was born and kept for her wedding day, the wild baby's breath chandelier (harvested last summer, dried and then crafted by B&T) and the most epic baby's breath disco ball (also crafted by B&T) complete with twinkle lights and a spinner - the details had so much heart and history.

This one was a gift. Thanks, B&T, people under umbrellas, vendors who rocked it in the rain ☂️.

Really really great parties have happened during thunderstorms. We plan to be one of those today.

Umbrellas and other assorted supplies are packed like we're heading into a "rainmageddon" as the forecast hits 100% chance of rain at 11am. Our best chance of sunshine is at 8pm when the percentage finally drops to 83%. It's bringing a heightened sense of comeraderie. Kind of like a blizzard in Boston. We're bracing for the challenge. And with the strong ties among B&T"s family and friend group, we're convinced it will be one of those really great parties that happen in a thunderstorm.

There is comeraderie behind the scenes in event season. It shows up in late night playful banter during pack-out on the weekends. It resurfaces in late night emails rocking out quotes and final details on the week nights. It's a mutual respect for the magic-making and it's a mutual euphoria when the magic has been made. It's compelling, this comeraderie. And I am grateful it's back in season.

Euphoria was also experienced when J&M got married on this dock and no one fell into Torch Lake. Magic made.

K&A's wedding vibe was perhaps best expressed in a vinyl record seating display that featured albums ranging from John Denver and Neal Diamond to Queen and Led Zeppelin. They are a pair of brilliant minds with hippie souls, Metallica t-shirts and two spunky golden retrievers.

According to their vows on the beach, she first caught his eye some years ago during her solo Napolean Dynamite dance performance (which received a standing ovation). He sported a kilt at rehearsal and a mullet haircut down the aisle. Barefoot.

This pair showed up to have fun. Authentic, thoughtfully crafted, so present in the moment fun. Their people lingered long in conversations on the bayside patio and danced hard to music represented on the seating chart albums. Thoughtful. Authentic. Just so fun.

We're heading somewhere new (to us) this weekend. East side of town, on the beach. Barefoot ceremony setup, fun tunes and local blooms on the agenda. My truck is loaded with beer, seltzers, rum and candles. The forecast is in our favor. Pretty excited to be celebrating K&A with all their favorite people 💃 🍻.
