Married by a Sea Captain Ordained U.S. Merchant Marine Ship Captain with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. South Florida’s most sought after Wedding Officiant. Coast Guard as a in the U. S.

Hollywood gave a big boost to the myth that captains could legally join couples on the open seas. In South Florida, Captain Ray Goad, also an ordained minister, is making this myth a reality. Somewhere along the line, with a big boost from Hollywood, people got it into their heads that sea captains, nattily dressed in their crisp uniforms, could legally join couples on the open seas. Florida State

Law 741.07 - "Persons authorized to solemnize matrimony." (1) All regularly ordained ministers of the gospel or elders in communion with some church, or other ordained clergy, and all judicial officers, including retired judicial officers, clerks of the circuit courts, and notaries public of this state may solemnize the rights of matrimonial contract, under the regulations prescribed by law. Captain Ray was years ago asked to marry some friends; and, since has found that many couples not formally associated with any particular church, find the requirements of being married in churches can be unnecessarily intrusive with requirements, limitations and prerequisites often not personally relevant to their marriage. Captain Ray provides an alternative, that takes advantage of his life long experience as a professional with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, a career as a corporate General Counsel, more than five years of actual on board experience as a Master Captain, certified by the U.S. Merchant Marines Officer. Wether on a South Florida beach at dawn or sunset with just the couple in attendance, or with dozens of friends and family, at home or on the decks of a Yacht or Club venue, with his accumulated wisdom, he helps his Wedding Clients create just the feeling they are looking for, with vows that are personal and most meaningful to them

All variations of religious, secular, traditional and personal ceremonial practices are often incorporated into the ceremonies as directed by the wishes of the client. Captain Ray believes that this is their day, and not a time to for him or others to impose their requirements. Captain Ray feels that it is an honor to officiate the sacred vows of marriage between Brides and Grooms brought together by love, and genuinely appreciates the opportunity to participate with them in their moment of solemn matrimony.

Miss Manners: What is the etiquette for announcing a mini wedding to extended family?

By Judith Martin, Nicholas Martin, and Jacobina Martin

Dear Miss Manners: My partner and I are planning a mini wedding this spring with just my parents, my brother and his kids, and our two best friends. This is for two reasons: 1. With the continuing uncertainty of covid, we don’t want to have a big gathering requiring lots of travel (most of my family lives scattered across the country). 2. Neither of us is honestly that interested in planning and partaking in a big, more traditional wedding.

What etiquette is involved with announcing this to extended family and other friends? Should we say it before or after the wedding? Who, if anyone, should be informed personally? Do we send out cards? Just post it on social media and be done? What is polite wording so no one feels left out?

We might have a celebratory party for an anniversary in the future when covid is solidly wrapped up (if it ever is).

It’s not quite an elopement, but close. What are the manners for eloping?

The rule about elopements is to do it first and announce it afterward. But there is never a call to tell people that you are planning a celebration to which you are not inviting them, with the unwritten implication, “So there!”

What you are planning should be described to anyone else aware of it as “a private wedding with just the immediate family.” Miss Manners need hardly warn you not to post pictures that would belie this description.

You can then send formal announcements, if you wish, but that will not solace relatives who feel excluded. To them, personal letters, explaining the circumstances and declaring that you missed them, should help.

At The Addison in Boca Raton, South Florida’s premier wedding venue, this Saturday evening the ceremony began with these words: ”Welcome to the ambiance of these lovely and abiding premises…As we stand here we can feel the vision of Addison Mizner, now recognized in the National Register of Historic Places. It is interesting to observe that one dream not realized by Addison was for the Camino Real roadway to actually be a canal providing access to the Intracoastal Waterway, which is the 3,000-mile marine highway that runs all the way from the Cape Cod Canal (the Groom’s birthplace) on its way ultimately here to South Florida (the Bride’s birthplace).”

FIVE STARS
Captain Ray for President!
Captain Ray made our wedding more special than we could have imagined. The care he put into the ceremony, the kindness and compassion he showed on our wedding day and leading up to it, and his organized ex*****on of the administrative tasks made him our wedding angel. We are forever grateful.
