Lighting big groups is my jam…

You want to have pictures of everyone at your wedding right? To remember the joy and love around you….I love lighting big groups….. why? As you can see, with my high powered portable strobes that I bring - you’ll always know that you’ll be able to see clearly your guests faces in the image (won’t be dark/shadowed) and you’ll always get that gorgeous blue California sky! I have this ability any time of day - not just at sunset.

What I see…

In the past 18 years of shooting, I’ve definitely changed the way I “see” the world and its beauty. My grandmother (whom passed in 2020 of old age at the beautiful age of 102) would always say to me as a little girl “Heidi, just stop… look around you at how beautiful it is..”… I oftentimes think of her when I see the beauty that surrounds us everyday. A few weeks ago we were blessed to be in this beautiful location at a private home. The pool was “average”, but the view was spectacular. Immediately I saw something in my mind that looked “ok” but knew it could be something beautiful as an image. The reflections from the pool… the blue water - his blue suit… it all just was perfect. I’m always looking for little spots that normally you’d pass by and say… yeah.. it’s “ok” to making it something that you’ll want to hang on your wall forever.

The wind can be your friend!

I often get asked by couples … what happens if the wind kicks up? What do we do? …. The wind is normally not a problem at all. As long as it’s not gale force (like 20. Mph and up) you will be just fine. I come prepared just in case with hair clips for the brides hair and know perfect angles to get that perfect shot. As I work onsite with lighting - we also know that I can still take that beautiful shot with the ocean behind you without having to search out area’s that are not as picturesque….. You get married on the beach for those stunning beach shots right? With a blue sky behind you? Not a problem.. that is what I’m trained to do. Your blue skies will always be blue and not white/or blown out…The wind may dictate how the bride is positioned INTO THE wind as I love to have the wind help guide her into dramatic and beautiful portraits like the one here. Love using Mother Nature for gorgeous images.

Silhouettes - there are some tricks to get a shot like this and when the planets align and the sunset it “just so”… just know that I’ll be asking you for 15 seconds to get this image. There is something about silhouettes that just focus on YOU that I love so much.

Locations

The views here - people come from all of the world to take in the gorgeous coastline we serve up here in Monterey County. Yes, tons of beach with crazy views… but not all of them are accessible due to sizes of the beach (some are too small) and rules (some, if not all require permits to use their beach for business purposes… like getting married and/or taking professional photographs). Brian and I have been running Weddings in Monterey for almost 15 years now and we have found the most amazing spots to get married that are accessible. Each one is a little different from the other and we can tell you how they are different and help you find your perfect spot to get married based upon your needs. Did you want to be up on a cliff in Big Sur overlooking the ocean? Do you want to have your toes in the sand in Pacific Grove? We’ve got an answer for you and can assist getting your the permit you’ll need too. Permits are important here as they help our local state parks pay their rangers salaries as well as help keep our beaches clean and in tip top shape.
