This was a fun shot. I forget the name of the castle we were at, but there was this HUGE tree on the grounds. So big, that you could be completely surrounded by its canopy. I knew I wanted a night shot so I could back-light the couple, but I knew the logistics could never work out for a night shot since the tree was so far away from the reception room, and there were no lights or paths to guide us there in the dark, so I just underexposed the heck out of this and blew up the (backlit) flash to get a nighttime effect at 2pm. That was full on daytime, folks. What’s even more amazing is that I can remember all these details but can’t remember the name of the castle. It’s the moments that count, not the location, I guess.

This was from my 2nd wedding ever. The client flew me to Turks & Caicos, and had me cover their wedding. It was such an honor and privilege. In this scene, I was drawn by the flow and opacity of the curtains, and loved how the bride kinda blended into the scene as well. I converted to black white because I knew the lighting would lend itself well due to the gradations and cascading textures.
This was photographed in natural light. This was before I discovered off-camera flash, but when I think on it, I wouldn’t light this scene in any other way. Great job, younger me ☺️

Candid moments are the best moments. Pure emotion, captured in time. This wedding ceremony was particularly emotional, and I was honored to capture it.
Lighting was natural light.

I love symmetry. This image has it, but there’s a lot of competing elements. Normally, this many competing elements would irk me: bride, chandelier, stained glass. I would say that it takes attention away from the bride, but in this instance, all the elements line up to allow the eye to travel up and down the image, and back again. This was lit with a single light on a stand with barn doors, behind the camera, but raised up high for a spotlight effect; increasing the drama of the mood. It also helps that the bride blends into her orchids. Beautiful.

This is a classic portrait, with a classic pose. When I meet people, I get a read on their personalities. This crew was wonderful group of people, but I got the vibe that a classic portrait would fit their style. It also helped that the Florentine Gardens had a lot of Christmas decor, adding to the classic upscale vibe.
I believe this was a one-light setup with an umbrella to camera left. With everyone more or less on the same focal plane, I knew I could get away with one light to get a dramatic effect on their faces, with the shadow side sculpting their faces in a flattering way.
