MY MOST TRANSPARENT POST YET
Today is my birthday! As I turn the page to Chapter 42, I reflect on the challenges and growth of Chapter 41. This past year has been one of the most challenging, particularly concerning my health, following the complications from my last pregnancy. I’ve been diagnosed with diastasis recti—a condition that causes a separation of abdominal muscles, leading to a visible gap and significant back and hip pain. I am also experiencing pain with a twisted pelvis. These conditions required extensive recovery efforts with my dedicated healthcare team, including a physical therapist, primary care physician, chiropractor, and therapist. The physical toll of having a large baby at 40, especially while managing gestational diabetes, has been immense for me.

Those of you who attended our June events are aware that I began taking a break at the start of July to prioritize health. While I love helping others, this season demands that I focus on my personal health first. For those fortunate enough to have never experienced postpartum depression or any form of depression, know that it's a severe ongoing struggle. The path to recovery is filled with unexpected challenges, including spiritual and emotional attacks at vulnerable moments. However, these challenges are shaping a testimony that I can’t wait to share at the Lady Boss Round Table Summit. Oooh, it’s going to be SO good because this story, my story, is going to HEAL others, but only once I HEAL myself.

It’s astonishing to think that Christmas is just around the corner, merely four days away! This season brings a unique blend of joy and a bit of stress, doesn’t it? I’ve managed to set up most of the decorations, buy gifts (though wrapping them is a whole different story), plan some fun family activities and most of the Christmas dinner menu finalized.

There’s something truly magical about Christmas in Chicagoland. The various cities comes alive with a variety of festive activities. I had the chance to visit the Christkindlmarket (the Aurora version) for the first time and absolutely loved it! We also explored the Jack Frost Christmas Pop Up Fulton Market. It’s such a cool pop up that offers plenty of Christmas-themed photo opps, shops, winter bumper cars, ice skating, axe throwing and more. I highly recommend it! This weekend, we’re visiting World of Illumination at Six Flags Great America, which looks pretty awesome.

Some of our other Christmas traditions are matching Christmas pjs on Christmas Eve, baking cookies, house decorating with Christmas music, watching as many Christmas movies as possible and I love making a delicious hot chocolate bar and charcuterie board with all of the toppings. We also like to change up the menu theme each year. We’re repeating the Cajun theme, because it’s just toooo good!

You have worked hard, quieted the naysayers, and navigated the racism and sexism that often lines our path to success! You deserve to enjoy the trappings of success. Though with that success, we must be mindful of the impact that leading a certain lifestyle may have on our family and finances based on change in our relationship status.

Kimberly will share tips for women considering marriage or considering divorce that are often unknown or overlooked but can have a tremendous impact on our lives:

1. Crucial Conversations. Marriage is a legal contract. It's important to understand your rights, responsibilities, and obligations before getting married. Knowing what questions to ask, signs to look for, and how to set a foundation of transparency.

2. Prenuptial Agreement. Do you own a business? Have a house? Debt free? Then, a Prenuptial Agreement may be a good option for you to consider - even if you think you "don't have anything."

3. Educating Yourself. No one ever expects to get divorced. Yet, if that is your reality, then there are certain things you can do to better prepare for the process.

4. My Sisters Keeper. Whether your girlfriend is getting married or getting divorced, do you have the capacity to support her through the process in a way that best serves you and her?

I’m saddened to hear about the passing of one of our designers, . Thierry was extremely talented and the definition of a creative. It was such a pleasure working with him during my I Am Chicago Fashion launch party in 2017. His beautiful, artistic designs definitely stood out during our dance/fashion production. I strongly believe that you should reflect on all that you've accomplished at the end of the year and document it. It's good to also note lessons learned, but many times we get caught up with what we didn't get done that year, that quarter, that month, or that day. We need to focus on our wins. However, don't just wait until the end of the year to celebrate your wins. Celebrate them every quarter (every month is even better)! As Q1 comes to an end, take time today to reflect on all that you've accomplished. Write those wins down. If you have pictures that showcase your accomplishments, find them and either file them or share them on social media.
