📊 State of Grading: October 2024 📊
Grading activity was on fire in October, with overall graded cards setting another record high (for the fourth time this year) with 1.87 million cards (up 23%) processed by the four major grading companies.

Highlights:

• The stars continue to dominate submissions, with Victor Wembanyama, Michael Jordan, C.J. Stroud, and Shohei Ohtani leading the way as the most submitted players at PSA.

• The most graded sports card at PSA? Once again, it’s Wembanyama’s 2023-24 Prizm #136 rookie card!

• The most graded TCG subject at PSA? Charizard followed by Pikachu

“Megabid” Drama Returns
The only known full case of 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee hockey cards is back on the auction block after a $3.72 million winning bid fell through. The Canadian real estate agent who won the auction never paid, prompting the owners, a Saskatchewan family, and Heritage Auctions to re-list the case instead of pursuing legal action.

With a pre-sale estimate still north of $3 million, bidding for this ultra-rare case—potentially holding at least 25 Wayne Gretzky rookie cards—starts at $750,000 in Heritage's Winter Sports Catalog Auction, opening this weekend!

MARKET WATCH: TOP 5 QBR (Through Week 9)
We take a weekly look at how on-field performances impact the card market. Through Week 9, we have the same top 5 players, but 2-time MVP Lamar Jackson moves into the top position with a QBR of 77.0. While the on-field performances of these players have been strong, their trading card prices tell an interesting story.

Despite solid games from all these players, we’re seeing a mixed bag of rising and falling card prices over the past 7 days.

Michael Jordan’s Game-Worn 1996-97 Jersey Sells for $4.68M!
Just sold via Sotheby’s: a game-worn Michael Jordan jersey from the iconic 1996-97 season, worn in 17 games—including the unforgettable matchup with rookie Allen Iverson! This jersey fetched $4.68 million, making it the 4th most expensive NBA jersey of all time, right behind Kobe, Wilt, and Jordan’s own "Last Dance" jersey.

The auction also featured a Dream Team flag from the '92 Olympics, which sparked a 45-bid war and sold for $1.8M. In total, $8.5 million was raked in for “The Ultimate Jordan Collection”—a slam dunk for Jordan’s legacy!

🚨 Record Alert: Shohei Ohtani Rookie Card Sells for $533K! 🚨
Just days after winning his first World Series, Shohei Ohtani is breaking records again! His 2018 Bowman Chrome Rookie Autographs Orange Refractor /25 graded BGS 10 Black Label just sold for an astonishing $533,140 at Goldin—setting a new record for any Ohtani card!

This sale topped the previous record of $336K for an Ohtani card and adds to his recent streak of record-breaking sales, including his 50th home run ball, which sold for $4.39 million.

We take a weekly look at how on-field performances impact the card market. Through Week 8, we have the same top 5 players, but Joe Burrow moves into the top position with a QBR of 75.3. While the on-field performances have been strong, their trading card prices tell an interesting story.

Last week, all top 5 players saw a dip in card prices, but that trend appears to be changing. Interestingly, the best-performing QB (Joe Burrow) is the only one with a negative price change over the past 7 days.
